Not happy with cleaner

I had my rug professionally cleaned today

I told him I wanted a proper clean, there's small things stuck between the fibres that even the Hoover won't pick up.

Well he sprayed some chemical stuff on it, then just sprayed water and used his machine to go over it for about 5 mins.
After he left, I saw there's stuff still stuck inbetween the fibres

Also before he started on the job, he said if the carpet doesn't look super clean or fluffy it's because it's a cheap rug, and if I Hoover and it doesn't pick the pile up, it's because the Hoover is old and hasn't been serviced. I said my Hoover is 3 years old and has had a service to which he was surprised, well he would be when he's making bloody assumptions. Dh working upstairs heard all that, we both think he said all that to make excuses for his work lest I should have an issue with it

Am annoyed I paid for it to get cleaned, but didn't have any of the debris taken out, I have kids, so you can imagine tiny bits of food that have gotten stuck and stickers

I would have thought a wet clean would be pretty useless for getting debris out, to be honest - did you try taking it outside, hanging over the washing line and banging it with a broom or tennis racket instead? You just want to dislodge the bits and pieces. The wet clean will have got rid of the surface grubbiness and dirt, but it’s much easier to get bits to drop out than to suck them up.

Have you tried hoovering it with the brush attachment, while brushing vigorously?
The wet clean sounds more suitable from stains than for bits stuck between the fibres
