Why is it 'recycling' or news when a royal wears an outfit more than once?

Surely wearing an outfit more than once is normal do why do i get articles in my news feed stating that so and so has ' recycled' their dress as though they are doing something good for the planet. No ...they are being human.

You’re right. It’s ridiculous.

YANBU

If we don't applaud oue favourite RF member or criticise our least favourite for something...anything!...whatever shall we report on?

Our*

Because for a long time, they, and celebrities, had new outfits for every event. I think it should be reported as a good thing and hopefully more will do it.

TwoAndAnOnion · 11/05/2021 10:32

Because nine times out of ten it's a British designer and gives their business a heads up.

Exactly. It’s a circus. And wearing clothes seems to be among the main things they’re good for, so it gets attention.

the80sweregreat · 11/05/2021 10:38

I must admit that the DoC is fond of recycling her boots and clothes ( according to the mail )
As she buys expensive things to start with, it must be easy to wear once, get them cleaned, then just wear them again.
If she had to wear them all multiple times like other people then I'm sure they might look less new ( but still last a long time)
It's good she is thrifty I suppose but classic / expensive clothes should last.

I'm going to clap for this comment on my doorstep tonight.

Diddumz · 11/05/2021 10:42

I wonder if it because Diana, despite championing the poor and the needy, never wore the same designer outfit?

TheKeatingFive · 11/05/2021 10:42

It's good she is thrifty

I’m not sure I’d call her that 😂

Though I guess it’s relative

clpsmum · 11/05/2021 11:04

I k ow it's hilarious

ZaraW · 11/05/2021 11:08

Calling it recycling is annoying. Is it supposed to make them more " normal" like the rest of us plebs?

picklemewalnuts · 11/05/2021 11:15

Because previously it was expected they wear something new on every occasion which we now realise is unsustainable rather than glamorous!

Media would have reported negatively if they'd 'recycled' an outfit in the past. They're being trained up to report it favourably- it's not dowdy or cheap or an insult to the host.

Flissitytricity · 11/05/2021 11:27

Recycling, to me, is getting my full use out of something then passing it on for another to get as much use out of it that will give them pleasure and save them money. I wear clothes from charity shops and like to think other women are wearing things I donated too. Although we can not trace these items I would not be surprised if they are owned by more than just one or two previous people. THAT is genuine recycling!

I bought a jacket in a charity shop2 years ago and have no idea how many previous owners it had. I then donated it and saw the new price was (although still a bargain) slightly more than I had paid for it. Someone snapped it up and for all we know she could then donate again after some time.
Wearing something twice (the Royals) is not recycling !

Yes I agree with this, and don't think it's a bad thing.
motherloaded · 11/05/2021 11:31

It's because there's nothing else to report!

There's only so many articles you can write about somebody's waving or having a plaster on their finger.

The Queen has been "recycling" outfits for ages, no one commented because there are other things to say.

Thrifty compared to Diana and the others!! 😂 I don't recall them wearing things more than once!
motherloaded · 11/05/2021 11:50

Diana did update and make changes, but she did rewear outfits.

the80sweregreat · 11/05/2021 12:01

Anyway, according to the DM Kate has had the same boots for 10 years!
That's a lot of boot wearing .. 😂

DorisLessingsCat · 11/05/2021 12:04

Everything royal is ridiculous.

thereisonlyoneofme · 11/05/2021 12:36

Princess Anne has been doing this for years, and she can still get into decades old clothes !

TheKeatingFive · 11/05/2021 12:42

and she can still get into decades old clothes !

I’m impressed by this

MishMashMummy · 11/05/2021 12:43

Normal for us. Historically not normal for them, so it’s worth pointing out when it happens.

There’s an excellent Instagram account called @eholmes where a journalist called Elizabeth Holmes talks about royal fashion and the politics surrounding it. It’s absolutely fascinating and well worth a look if you’re interested in the reasons why certain decisions around royal fashion are made. She also has a book called HRH which is great too.
