Just a rant about straddlers

Just that really. Today 3 cars were straddling two lanes on the motorway and slightly drifting out of their lanes only at the last minute correcting then coming off another one ( just pick a lane FFS). As you were.

You don't pick a lane. You stay in the left hand lane unless overtaking. Straddling 2 lanes is of course stupid and dangerous.

This is why I have a dashcam.

Exactly this. You should only be in the right hand lane for specific reasons and if you don't have one of those reasons you should be on the left.

Nope! Apparently if you have a BMW or a white van on a Friday night you can straddle two lanes and drift as much as you like 🙊

Good all page seventy-fuck of the Highway Code, is that chapter titled "rules are for losers"? Grin

Yeah, I think I remember seeing that in the highway code, actually. Doesn't it apply to Audis too?

I think it definitely applies to Audis, @Puntastic - in fact, I’d go as far as to say that Audi insist that all new Audi owners (people new to owning Audis, not only people buying new ones) go on a special course to learn the unique driving skills that make an Audi driver. And you can always tell someone who hasn’t been on the course yet, because they use their indicators and don’t cut you up.

I didn’t think Audi and BMWs were fitted with indicators. I’ve never seen them used!

The standard of driving in the UK is getting worse and worse, imho. I like driving in France where motorists know how to use the motorway properly.

You’d probably find that they were fiddling around on the phone or falling asleep. I once overtook someone who was drifting around between the left and middle lane, so I went to the right lane. Husband looked across and the driver had their eyes closed and head drooping. I beeped the horn to see if it woke him up, which thankfully it did. Totally scary to see someone asleep at the wheel like that Sad

I agree @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I actually think Audi drivers are worse than BMW drivers now. Especially 4x4 Q3/5

Yep - see this all the time on the motorway people slow right down and start weaving about when they take a phone call, then speed up and keep in lane when the call is over.

Keep your distance is the best advice.

Also applies to the people who go at the speed of light dodging in an out.

As a random aside. Apparently different motorways have different norms of driving and how people behave.

Probably due to how busy or something? And also it said that on the M25 people are much less patient etc. And it wasn't just down to traffic, they thought there was a psychological thing about knowing you're going around in a circle so you don't sort of feel you're getting anywhere! Dunno if it's true obv.

Can we have a special category for lane straddling twats at roundabouts please - drive me mad

Dash cam, report the fuckers as they are obviously on their phones. If my partner is in the car too then he records them as we overtake, because guess what, they are on their fucking phones!! 9 convictions so far and fucking well deserved!!

Oh and the ones in really expensive cars who join and go straight across to fast lane without pausing or seemingly looking.

I once had to slam my brakes on in fast lane as a ? Big Jag I think it was just diagonalled across and would have gone right into the side of my car. Driver didn't even notice I don't think.

We used to have motorway police. Until the late noughties it seems. We could do with enough police from the party of law and order for them to be able to make a comeback.

Or are there too many Tory MPs and donors who would be caught?

Regular M25 driver, going anti clockwise from South to North but I actually can't stand going clockwise from North to South, its different and weird in a way I really cannot explain, I just don't like it, and will only do it if the Sat nav says its going to take so much longer. Bizarre I know.

Jags, (usually Sunday driving twits), Audi and BMW.... its like they literally signed "I will be a dick driver and never use indicators" upon purchase. Is that actually thing? I'm sure it is from what I've seen on the roads!

Can I also include those who abandon their vehicles in a car park rather than park them between two lines? Just before we moved here our local authority started fining people who parked over the lines in council owned car parks. When we got here, Norfolk, it seemed to be the reverse, parking between the lines being not allowed!

We were almost wiped out like this, OH pulled into the centre lane as traffic was joining from a slip road. One car pulled onto the road and kept coming into the middle lane. The look on her face when OH hit the horn was priceless, she clearly thought he should have pulled into the third lane to accommodate her.

I drive a van and DH often looks down on smaller cars and sees drivers texting whilst driving. It pisses us off no end - we know of 2 people in our community who have been killed by drivers on their phones.

Can he record them and reports them? Who would we send footage to??

Green-eyed not at all re M25!

I always start North and as at the top go either way depending.

The volume of traffic North v South is different for sure.

Which makes sense I suppose as n London and the North areas eg Herts around it are more densely populated than s London.. I think! I might be wrong but yes it's different for sure

Iirc it's much more the 4 (maybe even 5?) lane parts on the north. And way more congestion and aggressive driving.

So no it's not your imagination!

I had this recently on a duel carriageway. I had pulled into the second lane because traffic was joining from the slip road, and one car joined the first lane and just kept going into the second, only I was there. It was only as I sounded the horn he noticed!

Same bit of road someone in front was wondering across the lanes and as I drove past I realised the driver had her bag on her lap and was rummaging in it!
