To wonder when/if I’ll hear from them?!

I applied for a job in a school, closing date was noon on Wednesday. I ticked all their boxes on their person specification and explained why I had these skills in a written piece. I’ve been refreshing my emails for the past few days and starting to get worried they aren’t interested. I think I’m probably being daft expecting something so soon. I sent my application via email 3 days before the deadline.

Does it say on the job advert when interviews will be? Sometimes they include that, which helps. Hope you hear something OP!

No and it did say if you don’t hear anything within 4 weeks we regret that you will not have been successful this time! 4 weeks! I’ll have gone nuts by then 😂 it doesn’t even state when they want the new candidate to start but I am presuming it’s September.

Give them time to read all the applications

Really you'll drive yourself mad if you are waiting by the phone all this time. They either want to interview you or they don't

PaperMonster · 07/05/2021 18:50

From my experience, if they’re not going to invite you to interview then you won’t hear. I’ve applied to a few schools and been able to evidence all the Essentials and Desirables - but I’ve only ever heard back from one school and that was merely to acknowledge my application.

Thank you, I know I’m being unreasonable just needed to be talked down!! I just really want the job 😭😭

Ah well there you go then, 4 weeks you’ll have to wait to know for sure. Seems like a long time - I’ve always heard within a few days of the applications closing.

threeteenstaximum · 07/05/2021 18:55

It's fabulous that you want the job. Hopefully that enthusiasm will have come across in your application . But - meh - managers and HR look at it when they can, they take their time to invite shortlisted candidates to interview and take their time to offer the job. It's a school. It's not US where everything happens quickly as you are head hunted and can leave and join quickly,

Focus on what else you can do in the meantime and if they invite you to interview you will have other stuff going on and be more natural in interview

GintyMcGinty · 07/05/2021 18:57

Sorry you need to be patient.

They have said 4 weeks - so that is how long they anticipate shortlisting and inviting to interviewing is going to take. You will go mad if you keep refreshing for 4 weeks.

Good luck though.

Thank you ❤️

I would not be concerned about a delay of this short length.

Heyha · 07/05/2021 19:02

Depending on the role they will probably have had loads of applications in the current climate and they will want to give everyone a fair viewing of their form so might take a bit longer than normal, I wouldn't be worrying until the end of next week, although I know that doesn't help much!
