To make an urgent appeal to any vets?

Posting for traffic. I have a little cat that suffers from particularly severe calicivirus (cat flu), currently has hideous mouth ulceration that responds to nothing including interferon. Every time he comes off antibiotics he goes into a downward spiral.

Please help me track down the top calici specialists in the UK? I've exhausted all the mainstream options and I need someone who can maybe suggest something more experimental.

Not a very clear picture, but...

Have you tried a specialist cats veg surgery?

NCforsafety · 07/05/2021 09:49

try www.veterinary-practice.com or www.vin.com - Vin certainly has a forum where you could ask for advice re specialists.

Danielle Gunn Moore?

Not an expert myself but interferon gamma and removal of all teeth would be 2 possible treatment options to consider. There may be better things now as I haven't really dealt with a case for over ten years. It's a very difficult condition to deal with unfortunately.

SnackSizeRaisin · 07/05/2021 09:50

Oh sorry just saw you said interferon was no good. Have you been referred already or still at your normal vets?

felinelucky · 07/05/2021 10:48

Thank you for the suggestions, all.

SnackSizeRaisin we do have an appointment with an internal medicine specialist who works for the vet group I go to (£££££). But I worry that it might just involve a repeat of all the other investigations he's had. I'm willing to find the money, but would prefer someone who's known to be a total calicivirus ninja.

He seems to be responding to being back on 2 x antibiotics, but still peaky.

He's had 6 teeth pulled and we have actually managed to pretty much sort out his gum infection, but the tongue's a bastard.
