@Billandben444

Are you saying that the double jabs we've had are totally ineffective against this new variant? You could precis all that twitter stuff as I can't be bothered to read it all - if I wanted to be on twitter I would be but I'm on MN.
Nah, the vaccines work:

To quote the above scientist:

"Vaccines work. 15 cases of B.1.617 were found in a London care home where residents had their 2nd dose of AstraZeneca’s vaccine in the week PRIOR to the outbreak (so full immunity had NOT set in). 4 cases were hospitalized with non-severe illness, and there were ZERO deaths."

The tweeter in the OP wants a zero Covid strategy and is known for presenting the worst case scenarios. Ignore and move on.

Bear in mind that people in care homes are most vulnerable to the disease, being at the end stage of their lives. So the fact that none had severe disease and no one died, despite being infected by the Indian variant, shows just how effective the vaccines are.

So long as hospitalisations don’t go up, it doesn’t really matter if cases do. The vaccine is doing its job and protecting people from becoming seriously ill with Covid. People testing positive for an illness that will most likely now only render them in bed for a day or two is not a reason to lockdown the country.
Even with all the new variants and easing of lockdown measures, the hospitalisations are decreasing.
The vaccines work. Stop doom mongering.
Some people (myself included) have had their lives ripped apart and finances completely demolished by this.

We're not out of this lockdown yet!

Unless a variant starts affecting those who aren't vaccinated I think we're fine. Vaccines are clearly working and overall infection rates are very low.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

Isn't Deepti Gurdasani one of the doom mongers who believes life can't return to normal without zero covid?
Yes. Was also predicting a new surge of cases followed by another lockdown as soon as schools reopened, was on various news media back in mid March saying we were already seeing the start of that surge. Surge seems to be running a bit late…

Thanks all - I'll hide this post as I've little time for doom-mongerers!
