House next door sold and the new owners are gutting it while not living there.
There's been workmen in for days, so lots of banging, sawing etc from 7.30 each morning.
For some inexplicable reason the vans came back about half a hour ago and there's now hammering, dragging and very loud banging going on.
Why the fuck would they think this is acceptable?!

Of course it's not acceptable. I would pop round and tell them to stop!

MinesAPintOfTea · 06/05/2021 22:11

Are you sure they aren’t digging a patio?

wheresmyhairytoe · 06/05/2021 22:11

DH just been round and apparently there's a problem with a "back beam" that needs sorting. Still not sure why it needs sorting now but they have apologised.
I'm ratty.

That's not very neighbourly is it?!

I'd have to go round and ask them to stop.

Munkustrap · 06/05/2021 22:21

If it's a one off, it's possible there's an emergency that needs addressing immediately. Otherwise, no, that's not on.

If it's structural and it's damaged then it needs sorting ASAP. Otherwise you might find it, together with lots of other stuff including presumably your terraced party wall, comes down overnight.

I'd rather have the hammering myself.

wheresmyhairytoe · 06/05/2021 22:22

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that it's an emergency. Still grumpy though as need to be up at 6, DS who has ASD is not happy with the noise and I haven't had chocolate today 😂

It might be an emergency but a quick knock on the door to explain the predicament would surely have been their best course of action.

Fingers crossed it’s a quick fix.
