Anyone here had a blood clot?

I had my AZ vaccine 4 weeks ago. A few days ago I noticed a red rash on my leg, in a line on my inner thigh. It has now changed colour from bright red to a more faded purple like a bruise. It's not raised or been at all painful so I've not really thought anything about it, but tonight I read something about blood clots and started to wonder if this could be one? I'll post a photo if I can....

Is your leg swollen , hot to the touch or cramping ?

Franksalot · 06/05/2021 21:48

No it isn’t. I noticed the rash felt a little hot to touch on the first day but isn’t at all now.

I have OP several as n my lungs and a DVT in my calf x that doesn't look anything like mine did but that's not to say it isn't as I'm no doctor

rabbitheadlights · 06/05/2021 21:52

Several in my lungs**

MolyHolyGuacamole · 06/05/2021 21:54

Looks like a bruise to me, sure you didn't bang it? You say rash, is it itchy?

Clumsyvolcano · 06/05/2021 21:55

If you’re worried phone 111 to be safe but I doubt it will be that after 4 weeks. I think it’s normally within the 1st fortnight following vaccine that people usually get clots if they are going to.

Looks like a standard bruise to me.

SnackSizeRaisin · 06/05/2021 21:58

It looks like a bruise to me. Have you possibly got your skin caught in a zip or something like that? If you are concerned though you should report it.

rabbitheadlights · 06/05/2021 22:00

I was going to say it looks like a bruise, mine was just red and slightly hot to touch the doctors advised to draw around it with a pen and if the redness grew to go back. This was after 111 told me it sounded like a bite and not to worry. The redness got bigger and iwent back had a 8cm clot. Don't think clots cause bruising but I could be mistaken.

Personal friend... had az, day after developed a severe headache 7 days later she Is in hospital on life support. Half of her brain is dead. Even if she survives she will need life long care. 49 yrs old and no health conditions 😢

It appeared a few days ago, I noticed it first thing in the morning and just assumed that I had slept with my leg in a funny position, didn’t really think anything of it. It was really bright red, a rash made of dots, but has now faded to purple. The only reason why I’m worried is because I wonder if it could have been a blood clot. But would a blood clot not be painful?

Mine caused cramp like pain the type you get from prolonged exercise. My children have had bruises like you describe a rash of dots (petichial I think it's called);that then bruised I think it's caused by some bleeding under the skin when they bump or bang themselves.

Franksalot · 06/05/2021 22:24

I definitely didn’t bump or bang it. I slept quite heavily that night, so thought that maybe happened while sleeping, maybe rubbed against my other leg?

My daughter had a blood clot in her arm, luckily she was already in hospital! Her arm was swollen and the redness grew very quickly and it was hot to touch.

Waterlemon · 06/05/2021 22:30

I read that A Rare symptom of OAZ is bruising more easily.
I had a massive bruise appear on my leg after a bike ride. I wasn’t aware of hurting myself but the bruise was rectangular so I presume I caught it with the pedal. It looked awful but seemed to disappear much quicker than normal bruising. I spoke to Nurse on 111 And she didn’t think it was a blood clot.

Franksalot · 06/05/2021 23:01

Thinking back, I used my Philips Lumea on my bikini line the day before the rash appeared. I didn't use it in the exact place that the rash is, but close, probably one or two inches away. Wonder if this could have caused it?!

I’m currently having a big bruise behind my left arm and I had AZ 5 weeks ago and when I first saw it I thought it was blood clot and then I remember that I banged my arm not long ago but nothing appeared until few days later.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 06/05/2021 23:36

i had a clot in my calf about ten years ago - I didn't have any marts or rashes, my leg was swollen and extremely painful.

Skysblue · 06/05/2021 23:39

For god’s sake call 111 don’t ask a bunch of randoms on the internet to tell you if you have a potentially life threatening blood clot.

JemimaJoy · 06/05/2021 23:47

I've has that before OP! A rash that turns into that type of bruise. From the photo, our bruises look identical. For ages i didnt know why it bruised but my husband said I was itching the rash a lot in my sleep - so much so that it bruised. I'm not a doctor but i don't think a rash and bruise are even symptoms of a blood clot - especially not on their own.

JemimaJoy · 06/05/2021 23:48

The way you've described the rash is also the exact rash I've had in the past. Weird!

anomletteandaglassofwine · 07/05/2021 00:08

Dc had thrombocytopenia which is caused by low platelets. It began as a red dotted rash which then turned into bruises.

The AZ vaccine has been associated with a platelet disorder so I would cal 111, just to be on the safe side.

Alvinne · 07/05/2021 00:19

When I had AZ last week I was told to look out for unexplained pin-prick rash or bruising away from injection site. This looks like its made of dots. No harm in getting it checked out see here: phw.nhs.wales/news/public-health-wales-statement-on-safety-concerns-with-astrazeneca-covid-19-vaccine/

I have!

Mine was in my lung (pulmonary embolism) and the big vein in my groin (DVT)..I had stomach/back pain and was chesty...

The pain in my middle got worse..eventually my leg hurt too..a dvt was ruled out..

The next day I showered and noticed my left leg was dark purple and twice the size of my other leg! Was scanned and huge clot in my groin which had broken off and travelled to my lung too!

2 weeks in hospital on oxygen and bedrest.. 6 months on warfarin..

I've had subsequent blood clots when pregnant And had blood thinners throughout both my pregnancies.

I had the AZ vaccine without a single doubt! I was offered it due to damage on my lungs caused by my PE!
