Over the past week Dd12 is constantly complaining that she feels sick. She does worry a lot about everything so I've always put the odd 'I feel sick' down to anxiety however the last week it's been pretty much everyday.

She says she feels like she's got vomit in her throat and that she keeps gagging (I've not seen any gagging) but hasn't actually been sick. She doesn't have a burning feeling in her chest as I would expect if it was acid reflux. She is on her period but I don't think it's related.

I'm phoning the doctor tomorrow morning but I'm just looking for mumsnet wisdom of what this could potentially be

Thanks

Dh and I have had a similar thing so put it down to a bug. Dd1 gets anxious but has felt the same. Dd2 felt a bit sick last week.

Stress related Acid reflux

TheVolturi · 06/05/2021 20:11

Ds age 7 has omeprazole for this. He never had burning in chest. Just sicky burps.

TheVolturi · 06/05/2021 20:11

And there are a lot of very stressed kids at the moment, must be to do with covid.

My dd 15 has had 2 bouts off school with sickness in the past fortnight.. Came out yesterday that she is stressed about school..
To add to that stress school have put her on a managed timetable to monitor her being at school!

I have something similar and it’s a mixture of anxiety, acid reflux and IBS.

I didn’t realise it wasn’t normal to feel sick so often, if they keep a diary of when it happens, how they are feeling and what they have eaten it might help

Thanks everyone, I'll phone the dr tomorrow for advice.

@Mrsdarwin that's a great idea thanks, she's got pains in her stomach too.

She gets so nervous before school she doesn't eat which I think compounds the issue. Last Thursday she had a headache really bad and on asking her what she'd eaten and it was less than 600 Calories in the day as she'd refused breakfast, had no lunch at school and then only a nibble of dinner (because she felt sick) and packet of crisps. We spoke about healthy eating and what her body needs to run and she's been eating a lot more since. I wonder if it's in reaction to that too... although last two days she's struggling to eat again. Hopefully it is just a bug but it's worth getting it looked at

Just a little update, I bought some Gaviscon this morning and for the first time in forever she says she's feeling better. Can't tell you how relieved I am... however it is the weekend tomorrow so is it all just a ploy? Time will tell I guess but I honestly think she's not doing that as she was voluntarily doing online school this morning which is good

I have anxiety and get horrendous stress-related acid reflux. Sounds like it.

GoldenBlue · 07/05/2021 12:20

I get migraines related to period and ovulation. Generally this is proceeded or accompanied by nausea. Started in early teens.

My best cure for feeling sick due to excess acid is to eat breakfast, however sick i feel. Bananas and plain natural yoghurt. Sugar makes it worse.
