To ask whether bouncy castles a "thing" where you are?

Just that really - have good sight of neighbouring back gardens - just the way houses are laid out - and have seen three bouncy castles in space of a weekend. Some hired maybe and some seem permanent features. My DC are older now - so just wondering if this is a new thing or it's just a coincidence? Trampolines seem to have disappeared though which is odd as BCs would seem to take a lot more maintenance/electric. Anyone else noticed this?

I haven’t seen any in real life but I’m being stalked on Facebook and other sites with adverts for them so perhaps it’s a thing at the moment.

JetBlackSteed · 05/05/2021 21:34

I think just hired round here for parties (remember those)
Don't know of anyone who has a permanent fixture.

MimsyBorogroves · 05/05/2021 21:34

Not for anything other than parties. I want one now...but I'd probably wee myself.

Noodledoodledoo · 05/05/2021 21:34

Lots have hired them locally as a birthday treat during lockdown as a bit of fun in place of a party.

ghostyslovesheets · 05/05/2021 21:36

Mine had a little one we used to use in the garden when they where little about 15 years ago - think it was from ELC

APurpleSquirrel · 05/05/2021 21:36

My neighbours have one

ForgedInFire · 05/05/2021 21:40

My neighbours have a small one. They also have a big play set with swings, slide etc. My kids are very jealous

ohgenome · 05/05/2021 21:43

These are pretty large ones - so guess some must be hired (think school fair size) - they always give me palpitations as I fretted about kids falling off and cracking their heads (worrier!) I'd pee myself before I even got on it!

They're very popular were I live in Liverpool. There's special rates for three day hire. We bought a medium sized one some years ago.

Sciurus83 · 05/05/2021 21:49

Yeh my neighbours have one, other side hired one the other week, Newcastle

Auntycorruption · 05/05/2021 21:50

I think they're more popular at the moment than normal due to covid - same with hot tubs hired for the weekend. Just something different to break up the monotony

Hope you've got a good bra and a sturdy pelvic floor. In answer to the OP, no, only trampolines.
SixDegrees · 05/05/2021 21:53

I’ve occasionally seen them in gardens, but they’ve always been a temporary thing. I was assuming they were hired for a day or two for birthdays, parties etc.

Isitsixoclockalready · 05/05/2021 22:01

Had one for a birthday for our oldest but don't own one. I can't imagine many people owning them.

Gullible2021 · 05/05/2021 22:05

The hired ones having being popping up everywhere in people’s gardens near me. There was one, a huge one, in front of a small terrace house last week. They could hardly get in and out their front door!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/05/2021 22:06

Yep thanks to lock downs- if I had a bigger garden I would have bought or hired one a year ago. You can only meet people outdoors, you’ve exhausted parks, and soft plays are shut....hardly rocket science is it!

NeonStones · 05/05/2021 22:10

We hired one for a lockdown birthday. I might do it again in the summer holidays just to keep the kids busy for a day! They loved having a bouncy castle to themselves.

mummy2oneandtwo · 05/05/2021 22:38

What size are you seeing?

We bought my boys one from Smyths last year and it's brilliant but it is only really for 2-3 children. One of our best lockdown buys!

ohgenome · 05/05/2021 22:41

I don’t recall suggesting it was! No need to be snippy - was a question re what was fashionable or trending locally

RaspberryCoulis · 05/05/2021 22:44

I would imagine that as we are banned from entering other people's houses, people are hiring them for outdoor parties for their kids.

HenryHooverIII · 05/05/2021 22:45

We live in trampoline and bouncy Castle Central.

JackieTheFart · 05/05/2021 22:54

No. But I don’t live in an area with gardens.

ImInStealthMode · 05/05/2021 22:57

My friends DC have one for the garden because their Dad ordered it online after a few wines.
