To think that ebay FOMO is the absolute worst

Watching something on ebay last week that I really wanted. I got the notification that it was ending in 14 minutes so got the listing up on my phone. It had no bids, result!

But for some reason that I now can't explain I didn't bid right at that moment but decided a to wait a few more minutes. Put my phone next to my on the arm of the sofa while watching TV so I wouldn't forget to bid before the end.

Fast forward 20 minutes later.... absolute moment of shock horror when I realise I had somehow completely forgotten to bid in those 14 minutes and the item is now ended and re-listed!! FUUUMING!

Just checked the relisted item now and it's up to £25 and counting. If I hadn't forgotten to bid on it last week I could have had it for £6.

I am soooooo pissed off! Please tell me about a time when you have missed out on an absolute bargain and it has kept you awake at night Grin

That has happened to me too. I set an alarm now.

Why don’t you bid when you see it? Confused

fruitpastille · 05/05/2021 14:29

I haven't done that but I hate the last 2 mins of the auction waiting with several windows open with different final bids and then still missing out by a fiver! All that emotional energy and you still haven't bought the thing you wanted. I avoid buying from Ebay because of this.
@ForTheLoveOfWine I don't bid till the last day so I don't drive the price up.

If you bid immediately, you risk pushing the price up. Bidding at the last minute gets the best price as you're not getting into a bidding war.

I set a snipe bid to be placed automatically in the last few seconds and forget about it until I get an email telling me if I’ve won or lost

roses2 · 05/05/2021 15:21

I also use a sniping service. It automatically puts the bid in for you in the last 20 seconds:

myibidder.com/

I have noticed quite a lot that if things don't sell the first time round then they often go for a higher price with multiple bids the next time.

Oh wow I didn't know about sniping tools! Definitely going to look at that, thanks for the tip
