What attracts me to dangerous and repulsive men in films?

I had this conversation with a friend the other day and it hasn't left my mind, we were talking about who we found attractive in films and I discovered that I am attracted to the 'villain' in the movie 99% of the time, even if they are 40 years older than me.

Their demeanour and personality is something that I find alluring, I've been through abuse but it doesn't stop me desiring these characters.

Is there a deeper meaning to it or is it just an attractiveness that my friend doesn't understand?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

It's like riding a roller-coaster. It's scary and gives you a rush but you know it's safe.

Same thing - in real life those type of men tend to be scary, but a movie is a safe way to play with that attraction.

Storylines about nice people - men or women - who do the washing up and put the bins out and then tune into half an hour of radio four before bed ... are pretty boring storylines. So you're not going to enjoy watching that are you.
