Would you have said something?

I've just been to the supermarket with my dd. As I was leaving I saw a young lad maybe about 17/18 standing outside with a baby in his pram (not sure if he was the father not that it's relevant). He was on his phone and the baby started crying,he just ignored him and carried on using his phone. He then said shut up to the baby quite loudly and calling him a stupid thing. I told him he shouldn't shouted at a baby and that he wouldn't be crying for no reason, the boy then said he was and told me I shouldn't have got involved as 'it's none of my business'. The baby looked probably about 1-2 months old so he wasn't very old. I would've stayed but I had to pick up ds from nursery.

Would you have said something or ignored it?

I think you did the right thing. That baby could not stand up for itself and should not be shouted at, poor little baby AngrySad

You could have perhaps asked if he needed any help? If it was his child then he might have been feeling a bit lost/have postnatal depression. It was right of you to intervene I'm just not sure a telling off would have helped it might have been better to empower him to help the baby.

He seemed to think nothing was wrong with the baby so I don't think he would've agreed to me helping.
