Hello everyone! I have a gumtree buyer who is messaging me on WhatsApp saying that they want to purchase my item. However, they claim to live in Leicester and sent me this image to say that they are a genuine buyer. Any thoughts?

I got a message on WhatsApp the other day from a buyer saying they wanted to buy my product. I reckon they just spam these messages out to lots people which is why they are not specific and just say ‘product’. They insist on sending a courier even though I specified collection in person. I think that’s where they scam you with the money

GLXi · 03/05/2021 18:30

@DaisyLouB It's truly sickening how these stupid twits lurk around other people. One day, I'll give out an address from a police station to have the couriers time wasted!

We need a way to scam them while they try to scam us

GLXi · 03/05/2021 19:07

@SchrodingersImmigrant Indeed!

Hi all, unfortunately I fell for this scam a few weeks back. Caught me on a Saturday morning after working nights so very tired. They said it worked like PayPal, they transfer money to Gumtree, then you get a link to register you bank card to receive money directly to your account. Then they will pay and arrange a courier at your convenience. Link doesn’t work, so they say system is backed up as it’s a weekend and send a new link. Each link is slightly different and asks for different info. Realised it was a scam after giving my security code. I Transferred all money out of my account but they used my overdraft to buy crypto coins. Bank were amazing and got me all my money back but I feel like such a fool.
