To think watching Line of Duty finale tonight won't ruin series 5 for me?

I didn't want to put this in telly addicts as I don't watch a huge amount of TV.

I had never seen Line of Duty until I watched the first episode of series 6 with my parents. They and loads of people I know were really excited about it and raving about the show being absolutely incredible.

Well I thought the episode was dreadful so I started watching Series one to understand what all the hype was all about. I've just got as far as Series 5, episode one and of course now realise it's one of the best shows ever shown on TV.

There's been so much expectation around tonight's finale and we're going round to my parents tonight for a meal (we're in a bubble). I figured even if I don't watch it, it'll be almost impossible not to find out who H is (if it's indeed revealed) as it'll be all over the press and social media tomorrow.

I don't really plan on watching the rest of Series 6 as it seems a poor second to the other series, but it would be nice to watch the finale and to be a part of event television. However, would it ruin Series 5 for me, or can that series stand on its own?

Well either you're interested or you're not. Likely tonight would ruin S5

If I were you I’d try very hard to find time to watch episodes 2,3 and 4 of series 5 in the next seven hours, because something shocking happens in episode 4 which will almost certainly be spoiled for you if you watch the last episode of series 6 tonight because it has major ongoing ramifications for series 6.

But if that’s not possible then I’d say that the fun of watching tonight with your parents is probably more important than worries about being spoiled.

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 02/05/2021 13:54

Yeah, I’d finish series 5 and the rest of series 6 first. You’ll just have to stay away from spoilers.

I think I first saw series three - I still enjoyed going back to watch series 1 & 2.

FourWords ooh thanks! I'll have to think about that now!! But about to go on a long country walk and cooking dinner afterwards so I won't be able to catch up on series 5 unless I can suddenly feign sudden illness!

Episode 1/series 6 wasn't TV's finest hour, neither was ep 2 to be honest but from then on it went whoosh in a very good way.

I think watching the end of 6 will ruin the rest of series 5 and mean there's no point watching the rest of 6 which would be such a shame as you'd miss three brilliant hours of telly.

FlyingBurrito · 02/05/2021 14:08

How would anyone know, no one knows what the ending is going to be (and if any of the crew are members here I'm sure they won't be posting spoilers)

But it's 2pm you still have time to watch it

Flavabobble · 02/05/2021 14:10

I don't think it would spoil it. I've watched all the seasons before - did a rewatch just before season 6 started and still managed to be shocked at some of the events in previous series, I'd completely forgotten half of it.

Hmmm. What's put me off Series 6 was that my parents have been very underwhelmed with it and some posters on here last week said it had been very compromised by Covid restrictions.

Also, one of the actors over-revealed in an interview last week, and I'm now convinced that they are H!!

I think it's a risk - I wouldn't take it.
U have the afternoon?

I disagree, I think season 6 has been far superior to season 5. Surely you won't have a clue whats going on in the final episode if you haven't seen any of seasons 5 or 6, and therefore any twists will be anticlimactic.

Starting to think I'll wait now! Thanks for your replies so far!
