For some/no reason I found myself remembering this random YA book I read years and years ago. It wasn't particularly well-written but it's stuck with me. Young Victorian orphan Tory spends the five pounds her father left her on a one-way trip to Australia to become a housemaid at a rich sheep-farmer's mansion, only to fall in love with Jake, the rough neighbour who lives in "the bush".
Anybody else read or remember this book? For some reason I was absolutely fascinated by it, much more so than the wildly overrated "Thorn Birds".
