Historical sexual abuse ***trigger warning***

Very long story short, I was groomed from the age of 10 and then sexually abused from the age of 13-17 by my uncle who controlled those years of my life pretty much.
Now as an adult, I am starting to feel annoyed that he never got any punishment for this, yet I am still on anti depressants, struggle with trust, sex and feel sick that this happened still many years on.

Is there anything I can do considering this happened almost twenty years ago? I have no proof etc as I changed phones etc when I outed him to my family as he kept hassling me.

You can go to the police. I went to the police about historic SA, they took it seriously, arrested him and it went to court. Got found not guilty on lack of evidence but i always knew that was a chance. It felt absolutely WONDERFUL to have someone believe me. Please go to the policeThanks

Sorry this happened to you.

It's not too late but the passage of time does make proving it difficult.
You never know though he might cough it if he's arrested and interviewed.

I work for the police and you will be listened to and believed, they provide you with support and guidance.

Good luck whatever you choose to do.

He may well have done this to someone else. You can report via the Sexual Assault Referral Clinic SARC (and can remain anonymous if you prefer). It might help to feel you have taken positive action whatever the outcome.

I was sexually abused by a family member from the age of 9-14. I reported it to the police a few years ago when I was 37. It took them a long time to find him as he was homeless at the time but it eventually went to court. After pleading not guilty he changed his plea to guilty just before I was due to give evidence, which I had been dreading. He got 7 years. Reporting it and being believed by the police really helped me mentally recover from the abuse and the police were very supportive and kept in touch with me throughout. Good luck with everything x
