Tips for First Overnight School Trip

My DD is 9 and is off on her first 2 night school trip soon. Obviously we have had a packing list which I will follow but I’m a bit nervous about it and want to make it as easy and fun for her as possible.

I thought about packing each day’s clothes into a separate little pod so she just gets a pod out each day. They need a sleeping bag and pillow so I was going to get her a fun unicorn one. They recommend a duffel bag rather than a case for ease of storage so I thought one with compartments might be better else she will have all her dirty shoes stuffed in on her clean clothes but can’t find such a thing.

I was also going to put in a few sweetie treats to share and they says travel games and card games are fine. So any suggestions here would be fantastic as well.

Hi OP

Card games etc would be great. Re sweetie treats - please check whether this is cool with the teachers. If the result is a load of sugared, hyped up children, it makes it harder on the teachers.

Please have her watch (or help) while you pack her stuff so she knows where you’ve put it. If you can, label her soft toy.

Brownie leader here, I've done plenty of overnight trips. We always ask parents to pack with their children - then they know they're looking for their blue jumper, not the black one, and so on. Please ask about sending any foods, we often have a lot of allergies to cater for. Packing each day separately is a good idea, and having plenty of bags for dirty/wet clothes. You don't mention the accommodation they're sleeping in, but bigger dormitories can be quite chilly, especially if they pop to the toilet during the night, so warm pjs are often better than a nightdress. Hope she has a great time!

Thank you! Good idea to check about the treats!
