I never feel good about exercise. I feel shit doing it and I don't feel any 'high' afterwards, never have done. I just feel knackered & done-in for the rest of the day. I've tried spinning, rowing & swimming.

The only time I get this is sometimes when I've walked at a quick pace for about an hour.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 28/04/2021 14:29

Me too.

I think it's a myth.

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/04/2021 14:30

I get it but it’s only when I’ve really pushed myself, like when I climbed a mountain 13 miles up and 13 miles down in a single day...

It’s not really something you can get from a single 1hr fitness class....

FoggyDay58 · 28/04/2021 14:32

I only got it at the end of running a marathon, when I also wet myself. Make of that what you will!

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/04/2021 14:34

It’s the exact same physiologically as the high women get after natural, complication free childbirth....for anyone struggling to think what it feels like.

MissSmiley · 28/04/2021 14:34

There was a thread about this the other day, I assumed everyone got it, I do and it really makes exercise addictive but apparently not everyone does

SummerHouse · 28/04/2021 14:36

I get a buzz from swimming 50 lengths but has to be non stop swimming. Maybe you haven't found your thing?

Ladywinesalot · 28/04/2021 14:38

You’ll only get it when you push yourself past the point of it being really hard.
Then I get into a stride and when I’ve finished I’m high as a kite

cakefanatic · 28/04/2021 14:38

I only get it from pushing myself in the cardiovascular sense. So I might get it after a run, perhaps. I wouldn’t get it after a fitness class. After something like Pilates though I tend to feel looser/more relaxed and calm.

gingerscot · 28/04/2021 14:39

I get it after a kick ass bodycombat class.
Not every time, but one where it all just comes together, the music, the instructor, the energy, it’s a great feeling and keeps me motivated to chase it.

I remember once before class a woman saying to me “I’m still waiting for that high feeling.” I asked her if this was the only class she did, which she confirmed. I then told her that if she got the high from this class, she was doing it wrong - body balance which ends with a 10min guided relaxation/ meditation...

I read the other recent thread about this and was unsure whether I am one of those people who will never get it, or just need to exercise more to get there. This post tells me it's the latter- I've had 2 complication free natural births and after each one I felt relieved it was over, happy to have a healthy child but other than that knackered and hungry. Definitely not on any kind of high!
Gingernaut · 28/04/2021 14:40

YANBU

After exercise, I feel like crap.

Swimming, zumba, aerobics, LBTs, circuit training, long distance walking, personal trainers - I've tried. I really have tried.

It fucking hurts, leaves my throat raw from breathing and I'm left hot, red in the face and sweating.

Chanjer · 28/04/2021 14:41

I only get it from sport I enjoy, never from something I'm making myself do, which just feels like work

Desmondo2021 · 28/04/2021 14:42

Have you tried making your exercise social? Absolutely nothing like the buzz after a run and giggle with friends on a sunny evening

HowCanYou · 28/04/2021 14:42

Me too. No high just tired

fallfallfall · 28/04/2021 14:43

No high with childbirth or exercise hard or light. Proud I’ve done it nothing else.

DungeonKeeper · 28/04/2021 14:43

No I mostly think when the fuck is this going to be over. Same with childbirth.

FluffyBlueJumper · 28/04/2021 14:46

I do, but I really have to push myself. I am going to feel it after an hour of kickboxing or HIIT, not after 20 minutes of mid-range cardio.

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/04/2021 14:50

@oppositeofbubbly
Yes, I’d agree that if you didn’t feel it after childbirth, you won’t feel it after exercise either. Some people don’t. The same hormones are there in your blood but your brain receptors react differently. It must be a genetic component that some feel it and others do not.
Similar to pain thresholds I would guess....everyone is different when it come to pain.

HermioneWeasley · 28/04/2021 14:51

Nope, never had it either

jajabanks · 28/04/2021 14:53

Nope me neither, not even the next day

Lilmzsnowflake · 28/04/2021 14:55

Another nope here, from childbirth or from exercise.
DH exercises hard and doesn’t get a high, but if he can’t exercise for any reason he’s a miserable git. Sort of low level grumpy with everything and a bit short with the kids. So I guess his body has got used to the level of hormones released and instead he gets a drop.
I don’t know, but it makes sense to me.
I wish I could get a high from it. Never have with drugs or alcohol either. Must be the way I’m made!

TheKeatingFive · 28/04/2021 14:56

Me neither. Just exhausted and sweaty.

It’s the exact same physiologically as the high women get after natural, complication free childbirth

No experience of that either. Sad

funtimefrank · 28/04/2021 14:58

And another. I enjoy some aspects especially being in water or being outside on a walk or run but no endorphins.

Dh and Dd2 do. Both good at sport so is that because of the endorphins as they crave the feeling so they get good or does being sporty make them more inclined to experience it?

ichundich · 28/04/2021 15:11

I don't get ut if I've had a lighter and / or a strength-based workout. It could be that what you're doing doesn't raise your heart rate (long) enough.
