to wear heels?

Sisters wedding I am MOH.

Her budget for dresses was so low that she gave use requirements, a small amount that could cover a cheap dress, and we would supplement the price if we wanted a more expensive dress.

She insisted on a long dress in a specific colour. Personally I am not confident in a long dress because I am 5ft 2/3 and I feel even though I am skinny that I look stumpy. But I found a dress I actually really liked, it was a lot longer then me because I am so small but I was confident in it.

I ordered block heels online that are 1 inch and I feel really confident for the first time.

My sister has come back to me to tell me to wear flats becuase she doesnt want me to be taller than her for the wedding. She is 5ft 4/5 and is wearing flats, so this would make us the same height.

The problem is that I have no confidence in a long dress thats so much longer than me and flats. I really dont think I will look good. She has said a smaller heel will do but I really don't like the look. If I knew before I wouldn't be allowed heels I would have really pushed for a shorter dress.

I am feeling a bit shit and my confidence has plummeted. I feel embarrassed to wear the long dress and short heels. The bridesmaid is very tall 5 ft 11? and is wearing flats.

AIBU to push wearing heels?

Your job is to look less good than the bride. I'm only slightly kidding. Grin

YABU. Just get your dress altered.

Voomster953 · 26/04/2021 22:02

Well, the heels are only an inch. Will you really notice not wearing them?

But if I’m honest, I think your sister is being a wally. I can’t understand getting her up as her sister, who’s one inch shorter than her, appearing the same height for a day.

She’s going to be in a big white frock, which will probably be more noticeable than one inch heels.

Voomster953 · 26/04/2021 22:04

Het up at*

AtrociousCircumstance · 26/04/2021 22:06

She’s being an absolute knob, but roll your eyes and let this one go.

Get the dress taken up slightly, wear the flats, you’ll still look gorgeous.

The main thing about a wedding is you realise on the day that it whizzes past and all the worries about specific shoes and what accessories to wear really, really don’t matter.

well thank you everyone who answered, this thread can literally be deleted because after getting worked up all evening she has just said that its ok she's not to fussed and I can wear them now.

Grin

Thank you all!

Your sister is being a bit weird - two of my bridesmaids were a lot taller than me even when I was wearing my wedding heels!

But YABU, it's her wedding and you can wear a long dress with flats easily enough. Just get the hem taken up to make sure you don't stand on it.

GrumpyHoonMain · 26/04/2021 22:08

Just go to a drycleaner and get the dress altered.

Yabu. It's not about you. Wear what the bride wants or step down as MOH.

I'm 5'2. Everyone and their mother was taller than me at my wedding (and I wore heels!) 😂 I didn't even think about it, what the heck. I find it a bit odd tbh...

BeneathYourWisdom · 27/04/2021 07:17

I’d just wear flats! You can take your dress up with wonderweb or have it adjusted professionally and send her the invoice?

If she said flats so all the bridesmaids match I think it’s a bit rude to choose heels regardless of how confident they make you feel? If she’s 5’11 maybe she’s in flats too?

DaphneDuBois · 27/04/2021 08:33

She’s being a knobhead. There’s wanting to be the centre of attention and then there’s being so self absorbed that you don’t care if other people feel crap. I have no idea if my bridesmaids looked taller. Does it affect how much her husband loves her? I mean, that’s why she’s getting married, right? I’ve got no patience with these brides that think absolutely every minor thing has to be in their control EVEN PEOPLE’S HEIGHT, Jesus.
