How would bring this up (engagement ring)

And would you even bring it up at all?

Recently got engaged and the ring is lovely but it's yellow gold and just doesn't look good on my skin tone. I suit white gold / platinum much more. I have quite reddish skin and the gold makes me look even more red.

I don't really want a gold wedding band either and not sure on mixing metals .

I'd really like to change the setting, AIBU?

I would be honest I think and say something. And make sure you go wedding band shopping together

Exactly the same happened to me.
I said I would change the setting, and did.
No problem.

Oh god, my husband did this and when I did bring it up at the time he said that he wanted me to have yellow gold so that people wouldn't think it was silver. I've been stuck with it for nearly 25 years now.
Everything thing else I own is silver or platinum.
Basically I'm no help. Grin
It's an emerald too so would look so much better in a white setting.

I'm pretty sure white gold is yellow gold with a plating isn't it? (I have a white gold ring which needs re-plating every few years and when it wears off is yellow underneath) so I would assume you could just get it plated to be white gold - nice easy fix and not too expensive.

My previous comment isn't totally correct - but you can get yellow gold rhodium plated apparently, the mix of gold underneath would be different to a white gold ring so the rhodium plating may be more tricky (but worth a go if you hate it)

I think this is correct. I was left a ring when my great aunt passed. Beautiful stone but yellow gold. I had it “dipped” so it matches my platinum ring.
