to think we should compliment ourselves more often?

I was walking through M&S yesterday and I heard someone say "oh don't I look lovely" A woman was trying on a yellow denim jacket and it did indeed look lovely on her. She continued and asked her friend "don't you think I look gorgeous in this, I will have to buy it" I heard her calling out to someone else "you should see how good this jacket is on me"

I've been thinking about it and why do women not do this more often?

AIBU to think we don't compliment ourselves enough? Do we always look for the flaw, are we too uncomfortable to say I look good today or my hair looks great etc. Or am I wrong and do the majority of women pay themselves compliments?

Yanbu.
Let’s give it a go here.

I look great in the new pink trousers I’m wearing for the firsst time today!

I'm not very good at doing it for me, but I may take a selfie and send it to my sister if I'm having a good hair day or have bought something nice.

It's definitely something to be encouraged though. If I see another woman looking good or wearing something that looks great on her, I will make a point of telling her, the usual response is to see their eyes light up.
It's relevant to my job so it comes easier than it used to and I know how much of a confidence boost it is.

Yes I compliment other people too, sometimes they brush it off so I wonder if we also don't accept compliments well. I was out for a walk this morning and a woman passed and said oh you smell lovely, she was obviously downwind and caught a wiff Grin I said thank you and it did feel nice.

@Witchinthewardrobe yes I bought a dress for £7 in Morrisons supermarket last week and when I tried it on I did think oh that looks nice. I also have a dress I bought years ago in Pilot and every time I wear it I feel good, but Ive never said it out loud.

We should do it more often.

I don't know. I think we should think it more but maybe not say it? I may have just been conditioned though so I am not sure I can think about this with a clear head.

I am a big fan of patting my own shoulders as much as telling myself off.

And i0f you say things out loud, they take on different reality level than when it's just in your head even if you say it just to yourself.
