To want to see dining chairs before I buy them? ...

... In other words, apart from IKEA and perhaps John Lewis, where can I see dining chairs and perhaps even sit on them before I buy? Buying something so bulky online when there's a high risk of needing to send them back is problematic.

Unless they have closed down certain stores due to Covid:

Sofology , DFS, marks and Spencer, I think SCS have stores, Dwell, Made.

dwell used to have excellent bargains ( some years ago I got a wardrobe worth £500 for £125) so they are always worth a visit, the one near Goodge st station

Anywhere who has a store that sells them. Like anything else.

Not in your area, but showrooms/stores are open now - are you still in lockdown mentality? Not being cheeky - I'm a bit like that myself. I definately would not buy without seeing. I wanted multicoloured ones, had resigned to having to down g rade to fake leather to get colours, f
ound fab looking ones online. Partner insisted on finding some to look at in store - he was so right, they were cheap and nasty looking in the flesh.

Don't you have an independent furniture store near you? I have three around a 30-60 minutes drive of my semi rural part of Scotland. I imagine there must be plenty in London.

Yes, I know. I'm after some names of stores that sell dining chairs, so I can Google them and find out where they are and visit them. There are many online shops selling dining chairs but not all of them have stores that can be visited. Even if they do, they often only have a small proportion of their stock on display. For example, I live near a John Lewis, they have dining chairs on their website but not on the shop floor. But in their case, at least I can check that before I travel and not have a wasted journey.

Lots Road Auctions in Chelsea.

So many amazing things selling for so little!

Make sure you measure your table first.

Try clicking on Google and typing Dining Room Chairs. A weird and wonderful thing will happen. It will bring up all the stores that sell them Hmm

shivawn · 25/04/2021 12:20

Just look up furniture stores in your area, I'm sure there's plenty of options.

I thought you were going to say that you lived in some remote mountain top hideaway, but you live in... SW London?!

Is there likely to be anyone that has access to a greater range of furniture stores than someone in SW London?

No, it'll bring up all the online stores, which isn't what I want.

In case anyone else is struggling with the same thing, I've just been for a walk around Kingston and found dining chairs in John Lewis (but not the ones I wanted to try), Bentalls (all ugly) and West Elm (all ugly).

Thanks. Their "bum test" certainly sounds like a unique service. Grin
