Facebook purchase - illegal tender

I just sold an item on FB for a fiver. Left it outside for the person to collect and said just stick the money through the letter box. She has just done that, cash is in an envelope. But one of the coins is an old £1 so not legal tender. AIBU to be a bit annoyed. Its only a quid, it doesnt matter really but I just think it's a bit bloody cheeky!

Pay it into the bank or get it exchanged there if you can be bothered to do so

BullOx · 24/04/2021 10:16

Save it to use in a supermarket trolley?

Flump9 · 24/04/2021 11:32

Sell it on eBay.

Lockheart · 24/04/2021 11:35

Maybe it was a mistake, but either way I think(?) you can still get them changed at the bank.

mpsw · 24/04/2021 11:50

Change it at a bank.

Or if you can afford to donate,, there are a number of charities very happy to have them (RBL definitely does)

sweetchillidumplings · 24/04/2021 11:54

She probably won't even know it's not legal tender. It's a quid Hmm

dementedpixie · 24/04/2021 11:59

It's a round £1 though. Should still fit in trolleys as I use a round trolley token

KarmaStar · 24/04/2021 12:19

Come up op!😀

EloiseTheFirst · 24/04/2021 12:28

Just think yourself lucky they gave you the money. In that scenario they could have walked away with the item and not paid anything!

42andcounting · 24/04/2021 12:44

Our corner shop still takes them, and they just bank them because obviously can't give them out as change. Maybe try asking at smaller local retailers if any will take it when you make a purchase. Or as PP said, you can still pay in/exchange at your bank. Failing that, you should still be able to use it in a parking meter, trolley token, or charity box.

Bargebill19 · 24/04/2021 12:54

Post offices will happily exchange it for you.

Elai1978 · 24/04/2021 12:57

Legal tender has nothing to do with it!
