Garden meet with friends - I always make cake/ dessert. I've been baking and delivering it for a few weeks and now seeing them in person. I fancy trying sonething new. I've made various cakes, millionaires shortbread , trifle, cheesecake. Tell me your fave dessert recipes?

For anything cake related I use Jane’s patisserie website. I’ve never had anything not work from there. I’m not really into sweet treats but she has some amazing recipes.

Mango and passion fruit pavlova- it’s divine. Waitrose do a passion fruit coulis. Just stir chopped mango into it and pour over the meringue and whipped cream. It tastes like a Solero lolly!

Ooooh - Lemon chiffon tart! A ginger biscuit base, like that for cheesecake, but with a tangy lemon mousse rather than cheesecake mix. Just delicious! And you can make it as indulgent (or not) as you like depending on the recipe you use for the lemon mousse (with cream or without.... I prefer without).

Lemon posset with shortbread biscuits. Or chocolate meringue with chocolate cream ganache and raspberries. Lush.

This is great. Make a big bowl, make several small bowls. It's a fantastic ingredient in fancier desserts. I've layered it with hazelnut meringue, I've put it in a Swiss roll, I've used it as part of layered cream, biscuit thing. It pours into whatever shape and then sets.

We had some friends round in the garden and made the ultimate sticky toffee pudding from BBC good food. It was sooo good and the perfect dessert as it started to get chilly out there.

A plum crumble with a few sprigs of rosemary in the filling is phenomenal

Depends on what has gone before and how rich you want the meal to be.
Summery puddings I’d do maybe a pavlova, a Pimms jelly, an ice cream cake or for a very relaxed meal DIY ice cream sundaes in tall glass sundae dishes with homemade ice creams, jellies, fresh fruit salad and toppings.. People love them. Summer pudding is lovely but it’s a bit early for the berries. A mille-feuille isn’t hard or maybe a Sachertorte?

  • Lemon meringue but made with passionfruit and lemon instead
  • Pavlova with any fruit, but especially tropical fruit-usually kiwi, mango, passionfruit, stawberries, peaches, blueberries or anything colourful
  • Hazelnut and strawberry torte. I can't find a recipe, but you make a basic pavlova but divide the mix into 2, thin rounds. With a fork, gently mix in crushed hazenuts before cooking. Bake till just set. When cooled, very thinly spread on melted chocolate and leave to set. Whip cream and spead a layer across the chocolate. Add chopped stawberries to the cream, then place 1 meringue on the other. You can also put cream all down the sides, but I find this too much, and just decorate with more stawberries and hazenuts.

Chocolate meringue pie - just the absolute best combination. I think the recipe I have used is www.bakespace.com/recipes/detail/Emeril%27s-Chocolate-Meringue-Pie/23963/

Can’t beat a lemon polenta cake

mybonnieliesovertheocean2 · 24/04/2021 22:55

Nick Nairn’s orange chocolate mousse and shortbread , also like delias chocolate torte, very rich but easy to make.

Cowbells · 24/04/2021 22:57

Orange and lavender madeira cake with fresh made orange curd. You can add clotted cream if you want.

mybonnieliesovertheocean2 · 24/04/2021 22:57

For a garden gathering I would also consider Eton mess

fitflopqueen · 24/04/2021 22:59

Hairy Bikers Raspberry Bakewell pudding, made several times, very easy, cream on the side.

Pear and chocolate crumble. Divine. Peeled pears in the bottom of dish, Green and Blacks ginger chocolate segments dotted all over the pears, topped with oaty crumble. Delicious. And easy.
