To use a zebra crossing at night?

Just been on my first run for a while and have been made irrationally upset by a man so wanted to come and vent 😅
It’s very built up and well lit where I live with a 30 speed limit, and there’s a roundabout with lots of zebra crossings with the flashing lights. I always slow down then stop and check any cars that are coming are going to actually stop before crossing on zebra crossings so I stopped at the side, maybe had like one foot on the crossing as I didn’t think there were any cars, but then i heard a car and it came round the bend so I stopped and they stopped, so I crossed and waved thanks, then when I was on the other side I heard shouting and realised the driver had pulled the window down and was shouting at me something I didn’t really hear then ‘I could have ran you over!’ .. I’m not the most quick witted person so I made a funny confused face and shrugged then carried on running.. but then I thought about it more and just got more pissed off, like I’m assuming he didn’t see it was a zebra crossing? Even though there was another one just before the one I was on.. and he probably went home thinking how great he was with his quick reactions when some idiot woman runner was crossing the road.. I wish I had quick wit to shout back at him and feel better 😅
