Had a scale and polish today where they used drills/electric tools, it wasn’t a manual clean.

I had slight build up on my back teeth; the rest of my teeth were tartar free. Therefore the dentist only polished my teeth. Is this normal?

I know they only remove what is clinically necessary but the tartar on my back teeth is around 2-3mm thick so I assumed would be removed; am I wrong? I don’t really have a frame of reference as usually my teeth are tartar free, so would like to know what’s normal !

Also is it normal for your teeth to hurt/feel sensitive when being polished? I winced!

I literally have nothing positive to say about NHS dentists or their over priced hygienists. Maybe other areas are better but where I am is genuinely terrible, they are putting out fires rather than implementing preventative measures.

My teeth always hurt when being cleaned but I think it’s the cold water 😁! And my mum needs an injection before the hygienist can get near her without it hurting!
