To want to get rid of cold callers.

Our old houses have been in no cold calling zones, but our new house isn't.
Almost every day we get someone knocking on the door, utilities companies, double glazing, frozen food sales.
I get there's not many places in our town that they can cold call now, so our road gets the majority of the cold callers but it's driving me potty!
If I put a no cold calling sign on the door then would they listen or not bother because it's not a cold calling zone?
Any other ideas?

I just say 'not interested' and shut the door as soon as they start with their spiel

I do that, but it's just the hammering they do on the door that irritates me.
I've got a little one that naps, the dog barks and I suffer from insomnia so try to nap when my little one does!

I've got a yellow sticker in the glass part of my door telling cold callers that I don't deal with such people. In the three or so years I've had it I've had one cold caller knock on the door.

The sticker were given out at a residents' association meeting that was attended by a police officer but they can be downloaded from our local council's website.

The stickers have the telephone number of the local trading standards office on it so that you can report any cold callers to your door as they shouldn't be knocking on your door; you don't want them knocking, the sticker makes that clear.

Thanks all.
I'll buy a sticker. I know in a no cold call zone that cold callers legally cannot knock, but I didn't know if the stickers had to be abided by in other zones.
I'll give it a go anyway!

Stickers work. For junk mail too.

We have a sign, never get a cold caller. It;s happened once in about 5 years, I opened the door, pointed at the sign and said 'Oh is my sign not working?' Grin
