Prince Phillip poetry

I’ve seen a few poems on FB doing the rounds, written as if they were from the queen to Prince Phillip and vice versa eg ‘I felt you there beside me at the funeral Phillip, I know you were with me my darling’

Well meaning sure, but a bit...mawkish. Anyone else seen them? AIBU to find this just a bit wrong - putting words into HM’s mouth that she is extremely unlikely to say herself. But everyone is swooning over them - ‘beautiful words!’ ‘You should send this to the queen it would bring her lots of comfort’ 🙄.

When I was recently bereaved, if anyone tried to depict my grief in doggerel and sent it to me, I’d have found it pretty upsetting tbh.

Bleurgh. Someone I know posted an awful cartoon of Princess Di and Philip captioned ‘reunited at last pa’ or something like that.

Presumably some people like that stuff though it makes me cringe.

Frownette · 21/04/2021 15:50

No that's horrible! YANBU!

Amelia666 · 21/04/2021 15:52

Thanks for reminding me why I will never reactivate my FB account!

ChangeNameTiredAF · 21/04/2021 17:12

Apparently Phillip is blowing 95 kisses down to the queen today from his kingdom in the sky. No. Just. No.

Doubt very much he was the blowing kisses type anyway, but what do I know!

My Nextdoor group is doing this at the moment - just STFU and get back to missing cat posts!

MolyHolyGuacamole · 21/04/2021 17:38

Oh god I've seen one of Philip appearing next to the queen as she sat alone at his funeral as a 'ghost', staring at her. Poster and commenters saying how sad it all is and it's made them cry. Bizarre.

How about this patriotic and respectful tribute rendered in the medium of “supermarket fish counter”

it’s what he would have wanted

Grief vultures, nothing more. They just love the attention.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 21/04/2021 17:46

I don't think the queen is on Facebook, so I doubt she will see them.

People are weird, writing a poem about someone they don't know, written on behalf of someone else they don't know.

dementedma · 21/04/2021 17:47

I thought the "official" poem by the Poet Laureate was good. Cant remember the name of it now

My mum posted/shared one of these on Facebook and I made a similar comment. It’s weird and tasteless to write as if you’re expressing another living person’s actual thoughts.

It was shit, too.

ChangeNameTiredAF · 21/04/2021 18:42

Yes the ones i read were totally shit and grammatically and metrically all over the place. “‘My heart is broke in two” / “remember all the fun times no one seen”. Grief vultures indeed.

But oh my God, the fish tribute. I kind of feel the Duke would like that a lot more Grin

Oh dear god, no!

TheKeatingFive · 21/04/2021 18:49

The fish counter 😂

the80sweregreat · 21/04/2021 19:41

It's all bollocks.
She isn't all alone like my dad was at age 88 ( he lived alone for 8 years) many people are really alone without any family or anything close by, she has many people around her every day and looking her every whim or want.
It's sad that he has died, but he was 99 and nobody can live forever.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/04/2021 19:55

Ok. Like absolutely loving the fish counter. Great job. 5*

Grief vultures is a good term for the poem makers, sharers etc. I think it used to be grief vampires.

It is sad, it is big news, it's a hostorical even even, but it's not something people should be obsessing like that about😳 I am always wary of people who keep banging on and god forbid crying about famous people's deaths more than their own families.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/04/2021 19:56

That's some abysmal grammar there. Sorry

serin · 21/04/2021 20:00

Urgh, horrible.
FB is moronic sometimes.

Rewis · 21/04/2021 20:02

I find it very annoying when people who dont know them make comments as if they did. All the comment about how Diana would have been an amazing grandmother and how proud she would have been of Harry etc. And now the dramtics on how Lizzie and Phil had a love filled marriage and how she feels etc. I'm pretty sure most of the posters have never met these people.

newnortherner111 · 21/04/2021 20:10

Facebook could do the respectful thing and remove them. If something breaches copyright or if a female nipple is displayed they are quick enough to act.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/04/2021 20:29

It's not just Facebook. It's always everywhere.

Yes, death of someone famous can be sad and have some effect on people, but gosh. Some take it too far

RoseRedRoseBlue · 21/04/2021 20:36

You are being totally and utterly REASONABLE. I can’t stand this tacky, attention seeking stuff.

Frownette · 21/04/2021 20:39

Hmm, I just looked up the poem by poet laureate, it was Simon Armitage. I'll have to reread.

I do like the fish counter tribute! Lucky they didn't submit it as a wreath...
