AIBU to think people are trying to flog all sorts of crap on the likes of Facebook right now?

I'm all for people trying to turn their hand at a new venture/ skill etc and we all need to earn money, but some of it is crazy!

This week amongst other things, a letterbox box filled with standard chocolate, (the kind you get 5 for a quid) being sold for £15!
What's the most ridiculous/ overpriced things you've seen?

Or am I just grumpy and people actually like to receive these as gifts?

I totally agree, I keep seeing the ones where you get a book (novel, random), a couple of packets with a herbal tea bag and a bookmark - for £9.20 (inc postage) and there are dozens along similar lines 😳

So much tat. On our village Facebook page we have about 20 scentsy consultants, 5 people washing cars, letterbox sweets, chocolates, hampers and every kind of mlm you can think of.

The one that makes me really sad is a mum who told the group that she had started drawing (felt tips) when she lost her job due to covid. Loads of people said she was really talented so she got prints done and now can't shift them.

Their family must have been so supportive and kind about it that they think it's a good idea!
The book and a few packets of tea is crazy. I saw a woman making soup bowl cosies which is fair enough I suppose for maybe older people holding the soup, but they were selling it with a random tin of soup in for an absolutely inflated price.
That and a box of cleaning products and a random 1 serving small bottle of wine.... mental.

Its depressing. There are mountains of it where I live too.

Hint. If it requires no skills, consists of you buying stuff wholesale and selling it on at huge mark up.... DO YOUR PORTERS FIVE FORCES ANALYSIS.
Competitive rivalry = massive. There are loads of people who will compete against you and push prices down.
Supplier power = neutral, probably plenty of suppliers of tat out there for you to choose from although equally you won't be an important customer to any of them.
Buyer power = high
Threat of substitution = high. Customers can replace what you sell them with other pointless tat, easily.
Threat of new entrants = high. Any fool with a credit card can set up in a buy sell business.

Conclusion: crap business from which you stand to make sod all.
