Warranty swizz?

My hot water cylinder was new in 2016. It was installed by an authoized installer of the brand.

This week it started leaking. After the first annual service in 2017 the installer/serviceman told me just to have it serviced every two years, and I have done that (so most recent service was 2019).

However, now apparently I have invalidated the warranty which states that it has to be serviced every year, and to make matters worse, I'm told the whole thing will have to be replaced as it can't be fixed. This cost over £1000 in 2016.

I told the company that their authorised serviceman told me that bi-annually was good enough for servicing. The rep said "Oh yes, a lot of servicemen tell people that, butyou've invalidated the warranty by not having it done every year."

I don't actually have a copy of the warranty, just a card stating I have one. The manual does recommend an annual service but who reads the manual for a water cylinder?!!

Is this worth fighting or should I not bother? YANBU yes YABU no

Certainly worth getting a copy of the warranty to check the exact wording.

I'd be annoyed with something lasting less than 5 years.

Is it a heating boiler or a hot water drinks type one? I was surprised recently to find out how expensive those things are.

I will start trawling though my files.

It's a hot water cylinder (storage tank), not a boiler by the way. It has an immersion heater for emeergencies that is pretty useless.
