Instead of going through PayPal and getting the money instantly. It goes direct into your back account. But takes two working days for them to send the payment. And another 4 days to actually land in there. AIBU to hate this. Sold an item on Thursday and still have no money! Arghh so annoying.Angry

I prefer it as with PayPal you used to get a seperate bill for fees

It’s terrible. I have a small business in an area thats suffered hugely over the last year. We were moved to managed payments last autumn - on the few sales we’re making, ebay now take 14% of customer payments - including the postage charge, plus I pay £30/month shop subscription fee.

I sold an item for £40 plus £3.85 postage. They are only paying me back £37. Not happy.

I HATE it - I used to let PayPal money build up in my PayPal account and use it for a large purchase - now it just dribbles into my bank account and I don't really see any tangible benefit

Crazyhouse123 · 19/04/2021 08:24

Hate it too.
The only good thing is that it takes off their fee so there is no invoice and there are no PayPal fees. But I feel like I have no control over what is, in effect, my money. I have to wait for ebay to make the payment but in the meantime I have to send the item that I don't yet have the money for.

On my £15.95 including postage items, I receive £13.71 - ebay take £2.24 plus due to low sales (pandemic) the monthly fee was taking an extra 90p per item. Then postage went up too, so the customer was paying £15.95, I was receiving £11.40 from which I then had to buy materials (which have gone up) and produce the item - ebay made more money than I did.

I’ve had to add postage onto my ebay items and I’m trying to divert customers to my website where we just pay ebay fees on top of an annual website charge - customers can buy the same product as the same price without paying postage on top but I actually come out with more money .

I'm doing the same - business card in with every sale pointing them to my website - where they can buy the same items cheaper.

Managed payments is just the latest ebay scheme to take more control away from you as a business.
