Could this be an intolerance?

Firstly if this persists I will talk to a GP and I know nobody here can give medical advice but...

Is it possible to develop an intolerance to something you have tolerated fine for years? I've noticed lately that after eating eggs I get nausea, abdominal discomfort and diarrhoea. Never bothered me up until the last few months.

Earlier in the week I had two eggs on toast for breakfast and since then I have had a persistent griping feeling in my stomach lining. My appetite hasn't gone but whenever I eat it makes it worse. And I'm usually dashing off to the loo shortly after eating too. It's been going on for 2-3 days now and I feel rubbish. Is this typical of a food intolerance? To me it feels like a bug but seems odd that it started after eating the eggs.

Needless to say I'll be avoiding them from now on!

I’ve had something quite similar, a sudden aversion to eggs. Mine is pretty swift though, I feel nauseous almost immediately but usually don’t throw up. It then passes in a couple of hours.

Some other family members also developed similar reactions from their mid-30s onward. According to the internet, I’m not the only one! I’ve never bothered to seek medical advice as my symptoms resolve in a few hours and then I just avoid egg-based food for a few weeks or months and reintroduce them. Mine only relates to very egg-centred food like omelettes or poached eggs and seems worse if the eggs are slightly undercooked. Cakes and things like that are fine.

Don’t take my word for anything though. If you feel unwell, especially for a longer period, and are worried, see your GP.

@sycamore54321 yes I'm the same, eggs mixed into things are usually ok but omelette or scrambled eggs really set me off. It's bizarre though as I've never had issues at all in the past, it's just come on over the past few months.
