Watching lod season 5( no spoliers please) and its facinating to see how undercover agents can change sides.
All the double/ triple agent stuff in s movies just fries my brain.
Without refering to lod season 5 can anyone explain what causes spies/ ppolice to change sides? Is is stockholm syndrome ?

I think usually starts with grooming them flattery claiming the could do so much better then an offer of money

We all have an egotistical and greedy side and some more than others are thrill seekers

Surely if you’re watching Line of Duty you know because it makes it quite clear why the various people “changed sides”.

In the pocket of an OCG through blackmail, greed, trying to keep a job and stop a secret coming out, grooming, duress.

Or do you mean you have only watched series 5?

I’ve read the Spy and Traitor about Oleg Gordievsky. Fascinating read and how he ‘switched’ sides. I can definitely recommend it to see that point of view.

Sometimes it's because they've witnessed something which conflicts with their sense of morals, and that this feeling of injustice/ outrage trumps their loyalty to or fear of going against something. Like with whistleblowers, or people who informed on the Nazis

ElsasFrozenVerucca · 17/04/2021 10:32

I think more often it's threats/blackmail or financial/power incentive though, sometimes both

I once needed to attend an anti-spy briefing. Learnt the common ways that spies get information on you to turn you. Honeytrapping being the most common one. (Along with over sharing on SM)
