Terrible pains after smear test - anyone else?

I had my smear test 5 days ago which was very painful and ever since then I have been in so much pain. Cramps / pressure on my bladder. Has anyone else experienced this? It's not a UTI as did a urine sample. This is making me so miserable and everything on google says pain should be light and only last 2 days. I'm worried the nurse was so rough inserting the speculum that she has caused some damage up there - irritated my bladder which is why I need to pee all the time. Anyone else been through this? Also she used lubricant which I thought you weren't meant to do? Thanks

You shouldn’t be in pain after a smear test. You need to speak to your doctor.
You can report your thread to MNHQ by ‘clicking’ on the three dots on the bottom left hand side of your post and picking ‘report’ from the drop down list.

I think you need to call Nhs 24 and explain to them what has happened and your symptoms. It’s is not normal to be in pain after a smear test or needing to pee all the time. Good luck. Xx

Get in touch with the GP and get checked out. This kind of pain shouldn’t happen and not for days afterwards. Some medical staff carrying out smears can be quite rough.

Yes I had this but i later found out I had severe endometriosis.
I nearly fainted the last time I had a smear and was in pain for days afterwards
Do you have any regular cycle pain?

Thanks all, I spoke with my GP who said that everything probably is just a bit sensitive in that area, including my bladder, because I tensed up. The nurse literally jammed the speculum up there, while asking how my birth was to my 6 year old? Didn't really help me relax. I've got anxiety anyway and now all I keep thinking of has this caused permanent damage? Don't know where to go now and was about to start trying for a baby, so feel very down.

Sorry to hear that, how long did your pain last for? No, I never get cycle pain, and have had 3 previous smear tests, none of which hurt, I'm so angry and upset that someone has caused this

My cervix is apparently off at an angle so it's always a right nightmare getting smear tests. I do find myself in pain for a good 4 or 5 days afterwards, can't say it affects my bladder though. More like I feel bruised.

Hello OP! Did your problem get better? And how soon? I’m in similar situation a week after the test.
