AIBU to be a petty as the neighbours?

I live at 42 Petty Crescent which is a cul de sac off Petty Avenue. 42 Petty Avenue is about 12 houses away from me, it’s a small business on a residential street.

Very occasionally my post is delivered there. I collected one parcel which was delivered inside the business about 4 years ago and another a few months ago which was left outside their door by the courier (they probably weren’t even aware of that one as it was the weekend, I was waiting for the parcel and guessed where it was from the delivery photo).
A few times letters have been delivered to my house for them in error and I just post it through their letter box without a second thought - it takes 30 seconds at most.

A few weeks ago a small package arrived at my house with my normal post delivery. CRESCENT NOT AVENUE!!!!!! was scrawled across the envelope. They clearly made the effort to put it in the postbox rather than my door when it was delivered to them in error.

Today Royal Mail delivered a tracked package for them to my house - it came through the letter box and assuming it was for one of my children didn’t look at it straight away.

AIBU to make the same petty point they did and delay them getting the package by putting it back into the post system rather than just doing what I would normally do and delivering it to them?

I would

Dizzy1234 · 16/04/2021 18:11

Yep I would, two can play at that game, I am that petty 😉

Aliceinunderland · 16/04/2021 18:11

Is there a post office near them? I'd wait for them to be outside and walk past them, parcel clearly visible with address and then take it to the post office for redelivery. But then I am pettiness personified

TwoMuchTwoYoung · 16/04/2021 18:12

Abso bloomin lutely

PinkCookie11 · 16/04/2021 18:13

I would 🤣

DogsSausages · 16/04/2021 18:14

I would be soon tempted to just put it back in a postbox but they might get a message saying it's been delivered and guess it's gone to you by mistake anyway. Be the better person, smile, drop it thru their door with a note, delivered to me by mistake with a big smiley. In future I would put anything back in the postbox though.

TokyoSushi · 16/04/2021 18:16

Oh yes, very much so!

Cheeserton · 16/04/2021 18:17

Go for it. Tell them what and why too, along with how many times you've popped by with their post. Also, how you're not to blame for the post.

JustHereWithPopcorn · 16/04/2021 18:18

I would Smile

MiddleClassProblem · 16/04/2021 18:19

I think they are more making a point to the local depot and posties than you, so really you’re only joining in for the cause...

Notmyhouse · 16/04/2021 18:22

Grin I’m going to stick it back in the postbox. The postbox is about the same distance from them as my house but in the opposite direction so I will get the petty satisfaction of walking by when I repost it.

Have you ever spoken to them?. I would pop over with it & introduce myself. say It seems our post gets mixed up from time to time. If you get anything can you bring it over and I'll do the same for you.

Carryonlikeaporkchop · 16/04/2021 18:25

I'm just posting to see if anyone tells you that you have given your address in your OP Grin

TulipSandwiches · 16/04/2021 18:25

Now, take a week off work so you can watch the redelivery. 🚗

Mummy1608 · 16/04/2021 18:28

I second this. Don't escalate the situation...
NoseOfJericho · 16/04/2021 18:29

I used to write 'wrong address, please try again' on stuff and put it back in the post.

Have got to know the people in the nearby roads since moving here, due to a rubbish but friendly postie so just shuffle it around to the right addresses. If they weren't friendly neighbours I certainly wouldn't deliver it.

WonkyCactus · 16/04/2021 18:31

I would just keep it until they come looking for it.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 16/04/2021 18:33

I infrequently get post for someone who lives at a similar address to mine but under a different postcode. The last time I got a letter, I drew an arrow to the postcode and put "the clue is here" and bunged it back in the post.
I've also had a couriered parcel. I looked at the parcel, on the floor and said "wrong name, wrong postcode " he was like "....?". I told him he needed to use googlemaps, he told me he had. the liar.
I've even been to the local Post office about it. It usually only happens with new posties.

nitsandwormsdodger · 16/04/2021 18:35

No
Go around , say what you're said here, point out you get their mail and have been kind enough to repost
Michelle Obama said when they go low , you go high

LemmysAceCard · 16/04/2021 18:36

I live at 10 New Avenue, about 3 doors down is New Close, we always get post / couriers / flowers / charity shop collecting furniture even a limo once for 10 New Close and they very rarely get our post but we send them to the right address or pop them in their letterbox as they do for us.

If they pulled that shit I would be just as petty back. I doubt they realise how much of their post you get and take over, they will wish they hadn’t started war!

Purpleweeks · 16/04/2021 18:36

I wouldn't only because it is a tracked parcel. Any other letters you get though, yes I would.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 16/04/2021 18:37

I think they are making a point to the post office rather than being arsey to you.
I'd go and meet them too and arrange to pick up stuff that goes awry - it suits neither of you to have post delayed. But I'd definitely complain to the post office.

Ponoka7 · 16/04/2021 18:42

I would imagine that if you are a business you'd be more wary of being accused of theft. Much more so than an individual. Businesses can be ruined via social media. So they've tried to draw attention to the correct address. They may also be making complaints.

Youdontknowwhatyoureonabout · 16/04/2021 18:44

As it’s tracked package I wouldn’t as the sender may lose out financially & it isn’t their fault the intended recipient is a petty twat.
Any other letters -absolutely.

dontdoubtyourself · 16/04/2021 18:47

You're taking it personally when the message was for royal mail not you.
