To ask dp to marry me

He just is not popping the question and I would like to be an honest woman!

I’ve no problem in theory but obviously traditionally the man gets down on one knee and gives the woman a ring. How should I do it!?

Take him to the pub and ask him!

Lockheart · 16/04/2021 09:39

Buy him a ring and get down on one knee? Men can wear rings too.

LolaSmiles · 16/04/2021 09:41

Just ask him.
Plenty of women don't wait around for the big down on one knee proposal.

FredaFox · 16/04/2021 09:42

Why should it be the mans responsibility, if you want to do it, do it and good luck!!

I asked my DH - we went for dinner on his birthday and when we got home I had an 'extra' present and card for him - a bottle of whisky, and in the envelope was my grandad's wedding ring with a note attached saying "will you marry me". Honestly I was terrified! I basically knew he would say yes, but I don't think I could have got the words out!

I asked for his Mothers 'permission'.... bought a ring and proposed to him on one knee. He got the engagement ring... I didn't get one.

Thankfully he said yes as he wanted to marry me (but knew I wanted to be the one to ask - as I like to challenge most traditions).

I wouldn't wait around, dropping 'delicate hints' and getting upset about it (not saying you would, but some of my friends did) If you want to get married, go for it, take control.

I like the pub idea!

I know ... just need to do it! The note attached to a bottle is a GREAT idea!

I asked my DH. We went out for dinner and I just asked - don't really remember how it came up could have been half a bottle of wine down. I didn't have a ring or anything. The next day we gleefully agreed that I hadn't been joking and we were properly, definitely engaged Smile

A few months later on holiday he did surprise me with a ring, though not a diamond and very much my taste rather than a generic engagement ring. But we were already engaged by then.

A good friend took her now-husband on a walk somewhere where they used to go a lot when they started seeing each other, and when they sat down for a break she gave him a little box with some sentimental things she'd saved like photos and tickets from dates, and at a the bottom a note saying Will you marry me? She was absolutely bricking it but he loved it and they're happily married now.

Maybe go to a place meaningful to you both, or just ask at home. I wouldn’t want to be proposed to anywhere but at home. (That’s where my husband asked me)

I asked DH.........it was 29th Feb but the proposal was nothing special. We both knew marriage was on the cards, I just turned to him in bed and asked if he was going to make an honest woman of me!
Ours was not a typical romance though, we met 3 Jan and got engaged on the 29th Feb...........married in August!!!
It was a crazy year and we have been married 16 years.
