Endless applications, uploading cvs, recruitment agency calls that come to nothing, getting shortlisted for interview but no interview offered or the most frustrating part - applying and knowing you’d be great at the role but not even an acknowledgment of your cv 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Anyone else?

No one?

I hear you.

I'm trying to get back to work after three years as a SAHM. It is so frustrating. Endless applications and nothing. Even though I'm applying for jobs I could do with my eyes shut.

It's soul destroying but we have to just keep plugging away I guess.

Iwouldlikesomecake · 14/04/2021 17:51

Yep. I hear you. Everyone in my current role says how good I am but that’s all well and good but my contract is a secondment and it’s not MY job so I need a new one.

GooodMythicalMorning · 14/04/2021 17:55

yep, I need a day job not a evening one, been trying for 3 years. Nothing! I did get an interview and it was cancelled the night before.

mogsrus · 14/04/2021 17:55

trouble is at the moment you apply along with 500 others,it will hopefully get easier,it is very frustrating & down heartening,i wish u luck in a very uncertain work world

DynamoKev · 14/04/2021 18:21

YANBU its shit

Localboyinthephotograph · 14/04/2021 18:39

It’s the lack of responses that really gets to me I think. I understand there’s a lot of applicants at the moment but when you’ve matched every criteria on the job spec and have qualifications to back this up too it’s quite disheartening not to even have your application acknowledged.

OP posts:
Localboyinthephotograph · 14/04/2021 18:40

I’ve found vacancies where you apply directly to the employer slightly better than applying through an agency. Silver linings and all that!!! 😂

Topseyt · 14/04/2021 18:49

I agree with you. It's shit.

I was made redundant last spring towards the end of the first lockdown, although the reasons weren't related to that.

I did start making a number of applications but got nowhere. Like you, barely even any responses. It is so disillusioning.

I then went through a hellish rest of 2020 with elderly parents both becoming seriously ill at different times (not Covid) and them going in and out of hospital. I had to go and care for them at times.

The first few months of this month have been no better. Worse, if that were possible. I do have a few local job searches set up but they bring up very little at the moment.

I must admit though that I have not been in the right place mentally or otherwise to look properly for the last few months. My Dad got ill again and this time he died. I had to spend an extremely traumatic month at their house again helping to take care of both of them in the run up to that.

I'll get around to looking for work again eventually. I'm just feeling too battered and bruised at the moment (metaphorically speaking).

I hope something comes up for you and you can move forward. Unfortunately the economy is also rather battered and bruised too and rather a lot of people are chasing too few opportunities.

I do wonder sometimes if the recruitment agency jobs really exist...

So do I.

I also hate all of these automated application systems with the psychometric testing, where you never get to speak to another human being and the questions in the tests seem to be loaded against just about everyone.

I can sell and promote myself much better face to face than online as it is so impersonal.

Or maybe I am just an old fashioned old bint!

Localboyinthephotograph · 14/04/2021 19:03

@Topseyt I completely agree!!!

I completed one where the questions were cryptic sentences and you had to pick the statement that couldn’t be true. It was t relevant to the role I applied for in any way. I suspect it’s just data gathering at the end of the day 😕

ssd · 14/04/2021 19:07

@Topseyt , I'm sorry for your loss.

I hope you both get jobs soon Flowers

Mintjulia · 14/04/2021 19:12

Good luck op, you'll get there. It took me 6 months and I was heartily sick of it.Flowers Wine

worriedatthemoment · 14/04/2021 19:22

Hang on in there I had this for months from and in last 3 weeks in my area I am finally getting more responses and have had about 6 interviews and some 2nd ones as well .
It was odd as for months no acknowledgements whatsoever and now I am getting some even some sorry not suitable but at least its a reply

worriedatthemoment · 14/04/2021 19:23

Are you on indeed ?

Laggartha · 14/04/2021 19:28

What kind of work are you looking for? A good bit of advice I read is "Don't look for jobs, look for people".

Hallyup5 · 14/04/2021 19:28

I hear you. Applied for a job the other week that I'd be great at, more qualifications than the majority of people in the same post, hiring multiple positions, and something I absolutely love and am incredibly passionate about. Unsuccessful, without interview. Absolutely sucks. Applied for other stuff with no responses, not even so much as a thanks but no thanks. It's so disheartening.

I’d happily accept a thanks but no thanks as at least you know where you stand and aren’t left in limbo!

There was role I really wanted a month or so ago. I had every piece of experience they were asking, it was in a fab location, easy to get to and a decent organisation. I spent AGES on the application form and thought I had a really good chance.........Never heard a thing from them.

Its so bad places not getting back to applicants. Must be utterly soul destroying.

Justanticipating · 15/04/2021 20:45

What kind of jobs are you looking for? Mid-high level ones? Just curious I got made redundant at the end of my maternity and will be looking for a new job soon,( but can't start too early cos my childcare isn't available until July.)
I was always planning on taking a step down/sideways from my corporate job to something minimal wage level. So wondered if there was a level of job that's harder to get right now.

Justanticipating · 15/04/2021 20:45

Minimum wage*

mumofthemonsters808 · 15/04/2021 21:34

Please keep going, it can be soul destroying getting rejections, especially not hearing anything back.I remember feeling very angry when I’d wasted time attending interviews and they did not even have the decency to send a short email telling me I’d been unsuccessful.I really appreciated the rejection phone calls, even though it wasn’t what I wanted to hear, I was grateful that someone took the time to contact me.

You will find something, there is something with your name on it.You need to believe this and keep pushing forwards. All you need is one opportunity and it will come.

I used to google inspirational quotes and have them wrote down and pinned to the wall.Sounds stupid but I used to read them out loud, just to keep me determined and motivated to keep trying.

It’s an awful situation to be in and even though I moan about my job and spend my week counting down the days, I know I’m lucky to be in employment.I hope things improve for you soon.

Mintjulia · 16/04/2021 06:57

OP, have you had an agency check your cv (which should be a free service).

Some large organisations do their first sift of cvs using an HR program and if your cv doesn't have what it has been coded to look for, then you don't make the cut, no matter how perfect you are for the role.
Agencies generally understand the algorithms used so it might be worth trying that.
