To be seriously ANGRY at ANOTHER abnormal smear

Hi ladies

I’ve walked in to a lovely letter informing me once again I have had a abnormal smear test and I’m about the cry with frustration

For history always had normal smears then in 2018 showed HPV positive and LOW GRADE abnormal cells

Had a colposcopy and biopsy. No treatment needed

Repeated smear 12 months later HPV positive still but NO abnormal cells

2021 - HPV positive STILL ( I read it normally leaves the body in 1-2 years ) and again ABNORMAL cells

Now need abother coloscopy

Sick of this : I’m sick of the worry I’m sick of being still HPV positive and I’m sick of now needing to go and have biopsy done again

How can the abnormal cells leave and then be back again ?! Despite having NO treatment to remove them

I've been going through this since I was 25, I'm now 40. I've had 3 colposcopies, 2 loop biopsies and a punch biopsy. Just when I think I'm going back to 3 yearly smears I get another abnormal result. This time they've detected HPV but no changes so another smear in 12 months.

It's annoying, and invasive, but I tell myself it's better than it not being picked up and me dying of cervical cancer. I cam definitely sympathise though

HPV lies dormant, it doesn't really 'clear' from the body but can flare up, more likely in smokers as the immune system is compromised.
Abnormal cells can sometimes 'right' themselves but combined with the detection of HPV always require further investigation.

Story of my life the last 6 years. Yearly smears, HPV and low grade abnormal cells and no treatment needed for 6v years :( no advice other than I hugely sympathise. Think the nurse specialist said if I'm still positive with Abnormal cells then they'll give me treatment. :(

I don’t smoke. I don’t get how it went away without treatment but it’s now back . Will I ever get a normal smear again or is this my life until it goes to full blown cancer

I had the exact same, eventually they offered me cold coagulation and I had a follow-up smear 6 months later and everything was normal and no HPV.

Ive been told I only have enough cervix left for 1 more loop. I have had 2 already. Got my 1 year smear due in July I think so hoping it is clear as my borderline result was aparently not anything they needed to do more after they took the punch biopsy. Not sure what happens when you have no cervix left. I might get the hysterectomy I have been wanting!
