Going on about the shops and the pubs and the hairdressers, ok - that is exciting.
but about so much money that has not been spent in the past year and how people have hoards of money.
that is not true of everyone and must have touched a nerve in many people?

It’s one take on the story, there are people who have saved money, there are also plenty of stories about how people have suffered in the Lockdown.
And is good news that things are opening up again.

The reports I saw seemed to mostly be taking about Primark. Not really the haunt of the wealthy. It is a cheerful moment for those who rely on retail for their livelihoods.

Pottedpalm · 14/04/2021 08:10

It’s important to get the economy moving, so people are encouraged to go out and spend. I saw a tv report featuring a group of delighted young women who said they had been saving up for their trip to Primark; all clutching carrier bags and with huge grins. Made me smile.

Boomchicka · 14/04/2021 08:11

The news is mostly a 24 hour cycle of doom!! NEW VARIANTS, BLOOD CLOTS, CASES RISING, 3RD WAVEEE. I'm sure you could have found something depressing on one of the news channels if you wanted to.

Umbivalent · 14/04/2021 08:15

But people spending money does help those who are struggling. Jobs become more secure, companies take on workers, apprenticeships open up, etc etc.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 14/04/2021 08:17

there is so much untapped money the report said, i can't remember the amount.

The one I saw people were queuing outside Primark too. it's a pretty big deal the shops re-opening again. I am sure people without hoards of money will still go and buy clothes and shoes etc...

And the people that work in restaurants, pubs and hairdressers can start earning money again.

winifredwells · 14/04/2021 08:32

pretty sure everyone could work out that hairdressers didn't hoard loads of money on they day they were finally allowed to work and earn again!

emilyfrost · 14/04/2021 08:54

What exactly is the issue here? Are people that saved their money and have loads to spend not able to talk about it for fear of offending poor people now?

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 14/04/2021 08:57

Agreed, I only watch the news to get myself depressed. All this good news is pissing me off Confused

CirqueDeMorgue · 14/04/2021 08:58

I FELT 'cheerful' on Monday. Never have I appreciated Zara so much.

WorraLiberty · 14/04/2021 09:02

Unnecessarily cheerful?

I think I've heard it all now 🤦‍♀️
