To give front sleeping DS a pillow

DS is 16 months. He sleeps on his front. Even when put down on his back already asleep he immediately rolls over to his front, he has always been this way. Well since he could roll over anyway.

He's had a duvet for a while now, he has a cot bed toddler pillow as it came with the duvet but I don't give it to him.

He's started asking for it and putting in his bed but it makes me nervous with the front sleeping.

What do you all think?

Why do you think he needs it?

dopeyduck · 13/04/2021 18:22

He doesn't need it, he wants it. I know toddlers 12 months plus are deemed safe to have a pillow but as he's my first I thought I'd see what experience others had...

My DD 2.5 has had a pillow since 18months and is a front sleeper....she always lies down on if for her bedtime story but by the time I go to bed is upside down with her feet on it! So if you don’t think he needs it then don’t worry about giving him one but if you do give him one, chances are he’ll ditch it if it isn’t comfy😀

Purplestorm83 · 13/04/2021 18:26

I thought they weren’t recommended below 24 months but that might be nonsense

TheMusclesBrigade · 13/04/2021 18:29

Could always put it under the sheet if you're worried? My DD has a pillow from 9 months (recommended by her consultant for her condition) and it was under the sheet until she was about 2.

dopeyduck · 13/04/2021 18:43

Hadn't occurred to me to put it under the sheet. That's a good idea, thanks!

at 16 months how does he know there is even a pillow unless its somewhere he can see it - just put it away. end of issue

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 14/04/2021 09:25

My 16 month old has a pillow but no duvet as she still sleeps in a sleeping bag. The first night I didn't sleep too well (obsessively checking the monitor...) but she had a great nights sleep!

It's fine at that age.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 14/04/2021 09:45

I'd just put it away in a cupboard. He doesn't need it. If he can't see it, he's unlikely to ask for it at his age.
