Taking cake/wine/flowers round to your neighbours...

... when you go round to complain about something the neighbours are doing.

This comes up on nearly every thread about neighbour problems - someone will suggest going round to talk to them and taking some present with you. Do people really do this? Do you? I have never in my life done such a thing, and on the rare occasions that a neighbour has had a complaint about us they have never brought anything with them.

Seems weird and unnecessary to me. What do you think?

I wouldn't. It seems really fake.

If I were just going round to say hi and welcome them then I might take a little something. But not if I were complaining.

jellyfishinatent · 12/04/2021 17:48

V odd to me too!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 12/04/2021 17:50

I’ve taken flowers/wine to a neighbour but not when they’ve had a complaint with us though. When the upstairs neighbour had fallen after a complaint against us, I did go upstairs and asked if she wanted me to call anyone or go with her to A&E. I would have offered to drive her but DH had the car.

jellyfishinatent · 12/04/2021 17:51

If I was a neighbour going to apologise about something specific I might do, but not if I was going to politely 'complain' about something

I would also find it really weird and be a bit confused if someone brought me a gift and complained!

greyscully · 12/04/2021 17:51

I've never seen that suggested. Is that a new thing on CF Neighbours threads?

DuesToTheDirt · 12/04/2021 17:58

It was on a thread I was looking at just now, but this is not supposed to be a TAAT - I've seen it suggested on numerous threads.

What? As in 'please stop playing thrash metal at 5000 decibels at two in the morning and drilling holes in my walks - here's some Prosecco and a tub of Celebrations'? No. That would be weird.

GreyhoundG1rl · 12/04/2021 18:06

Very weird concept. Are you sure they weren't recommending taking wine when going round to apologise for something they'd done themselves?

Happycat1212 · 12/04/2021 18:06

No it’s the other way round, I think you’ve got it wrong, It’s the neighbour who is apologising that asks if they should bring something round, not the one making the complaint Confused

ParkheadParadise · 12/04/2021 18:08

Aye right,
Go round complaining about the noise from their party with a bottle of wine.
😂😂😂😂

hedgehogger1 · 12/04/2021 18:12

I took wine and chocolates to a neighbour when we were having some building work done. Part of my apology about the news

greyscully · 12/04/2021 18:13

Well, yes, might as well join it.

I have been on MN a long time and have never seen this suggested-I think that would be a really bizarre thing to do!

Glad it's not just me who has never seen it!

I’d never do take something round when I’m going to have a moan. It seems a bit back to front? they’ve pissed me off so if anyone should be getting a bottle of Aldi wine and a forgotten tub of heroes from Christmas it should be me, the one who’s been inconvenienced, not the people causing the inconvenience.

Bet you'll spot it now... I could link to yesterday's thread but I know that's bad form.

Exactly!
