AIBU?

AIBU? Or rather am I reading too much into this or not?

Hi all,

It's been a long time since I posted on mumsnet. A lot has gone on and I'm in the middle of a divorce. Aside from that (and truly aside from that) I've been subject of mainly covert threats from a third party.

I spoke with the police this morning. They are aware of the situation and have been for the last several months. Now there is nothing they can do because the threats themselves are covert and/or I don't know the actual person involved with doing it.

Now I've been sat thinking that the police have been dismissive BUT now I've had an opportunity to think things through further I don't know if I'm reading too much into what was said or not.

The top and bottom was that the officer advised I get further cameras, as well as keeping my doors and windows locked. Am I wrong to assume that if there was no threat they wouldn't suggest something like that? I've never ever been in this situation before in my life, ever.

Am I being unreasonable?

It’s difficult to say without a bit more info whether you are or are not BU, but extra security can never be a bad idea. Hope you’re ok.

@MarkRuffaloCrumble - Thank you =) You're right, extra security is never a bad idea. It's mainly the "keep doors and windows closed and locked" that's got me rattled, because that's beyond normal behaviour really isn't it?

@DDIJ - I'm sorry I don't know what that is?

To be honest getting more CCTV cameras and making sure your doors and windows are locked sounds like pretty standard advice, the sort of thing that police and neighbourhood watch people give all the time. I wouldn't necessarily read into it that they think there is a specific threat to you, it is the advice they give to everyone.

@DDIJ - it's a very complicated situation. The third party at the centre of it is using other people rather than doing it themselves. I was previously extremely close to them (as a friend nothing more), but things happened and I've found myself in a living nightmare.

No they haven't been in my home, but they do know where I live. (Something that is going to be rectified!)

I'll give them a call, thank you, though I'm not sure there's much that can be done.

@DDIJ - Sorry my fault for not explaining it properly, the people that the person is using are people unknown to me.

It's a bit like this person has gone to the pub and gathered all their friends together, I've no idea which pub or which friends - does that make a bit more sense? That's partly I suppose why the police can't do anything because it's all so nebulous.
