I really enjoyed my experiences
I did differentvolunteering opportunities, met interesting people, went on expeditions
My only regret, is that I didn't claim my award
What is your story

I really enjoyed it too. Worked through all of them so have bronze, silver and gold. My brother who is 4 years older than me finished his gold at the same time as me so we were able to take both our mum and dad with us to St James Palace.

Loved doing the DoE award. I did my silver and it gave me experiences I wouldn’t have had otherwise. It was the one and only time though I got called into the headmasters office though - I We had camped in a well-equipped campsite with facilities and towards the end of our stay had a silly moment writing in the owners visitor book (pretending we were Margaret Thatcher amongst other scrawlings). I honestly didn’t realise the value owners attach to visitor books and the poor lady owner was not happy with us!

Other than that loads of great memories camping, orientating (mostly getting lost), community service etc. RIP Prince Philip

I hated the expedition! As we set the tents up it hailed and all the hail stones came inside the tent. That pretty much summed it up. All these pictures on the news of people doing the expeditions keep giving me flashbacks of how much I hated it 😂 I can’t remember much about the other parts of the award.
It did get me a job as a TA once though as I had the certificate at the back of my record of achievement folder and I said something like ‘ oh that’s just my DofE certificate you don’t need to bother about that’ but the main interviewer who’s class I ended up working in said it showed that I was up for doing adventurous things ( I’m not 😂)

It was fantastic. No exaggeration to say that it saved me (massive family problems). It gave me companionship, new experiences, physical challenges and great opportunities. I will always be grateful and have the most wonderful, happy memories of the expedition!

We got horribly lost on ours, ended up at the camp site about 3 hours late and the teacher had left! Hi did show up in the morning, but didn’t seem that bothered than we hadn’t checked in the evening before.
DS is doing his in a few weeks and it seems to have gone the opposite way - far to regimented.
