Our local Argos is now just a couple of catalogues and a cashier, so no longer any stock on site.

I want to buy an item...comes up as not available at our store - not surprising really as of course it isn't they don't have any products...yet I can't order the item either.

It is advertised as 'new in' so not old stock that they have run out of. It is a Habitat product.

No option of home delivery, miles and miles to the nearest store with the item I want.
Have tried to contact to ask if I can order, no response.

Argos was always my easy 'go to'.

Doesn't seem like a good model for selling to me???

You used to be able to order for home delivery. Since lockdown I’ve not been able to get anything delivered. They just seem more interested in trying to get you to go to a Sainsbury’s store to collect. We have a big Argos near me and yet just recently anything I’ve wanted isn’t in stock.

RoomAtTheEndOfTheWorld · 10/04/2021 11:05

I have found this with absolutely everything I have wanted to order from Argos in recent years, not even due to Covid, way before that.
It's very rare I can get something from there now, as you say - not available for home delivery and no stock in any local stores. And I am always quite happy to travel miles and miles for something I want so would happily collect at a store up to an hours drive away if no where else had it.
Not sure what their sales strategy is but seems very bizarre! Confused

bruffin · 10/04/2021 11:05

Im not bothering with argos anymore, last summer i want a chair for that day and i couldnt pick it up until after 4.30 from sainsbury which was too late completely defeats the point of argos. I might as well ordered on line from other companies which are usually cheaper

Bagelsandbrie · 10/04/2021 11:07

Yep I’ve found this too. Absolutely rubbish now and they wonder why everyone orders everything through Amazon.

Justmuddlingalong · 10/04/2021 11:08

Lots of stock not available for pick up from my local store. Also unavailable for delivery. In stock in other stores but they can't transfer it from one to another, apparently. Seems an odd way to run a business IMHO.

NotQuiteUsual · 10/04/2021 11:09

Goodness I've found the opposite. Everything in stock immediately, same day delivery usually available too. I live in a tiny town as well. I wonder if it's because I'm not near a big one?

PomegranateQueen · 10/04/2021 11:12

They have been like this for a long time. I don't bother to check argos for anything anymore as I know I will just be wasting my time.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 10/04/2021 11:14

It's been like this since last year. Nothing was available and if by some miracle it was, orders weren't processing properly or confirming - I gave up and won't shop there again.

Howmercurialislife · 10/04/2021 11:16

I wanted to buy something a couple of weeks ago. It said there was no stock in my nearest stores but I could check other stores that I could collect from.

I put in my postcode and it said there was stock in the Stranraer store, Stranraer in Dumfries, Scotland. I live in South London!

About to say the same.
MaMaD1990 · 10/04/2021 11:20

Arghhhhh I'm so pleased I'm not the only one. I've been perving over a Habitat chair FOREVER and it's not in stock anywhere in my county and not available for home delivery. Argos are not in my good books at the moment.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 10/04/2021 11:20

I live in a small town with a sainsbury's so you can order from Argos and it will be ready for collection after 9am the next day . Was a really handy service and saved me driving to Argos but literally had nothing for the last year so l too have given up with then.

Yep same here. Have had deliveries and done click and collect in the past year. I live about 4 minutes walk from an Argos inside a Sainsburys, and there is a big Argos about a 10 minute drive away.
JM10 · 10/04/2021 11:24

I've found the same. I want a habitat garden sofa from there and it's not in stock for collection of delivery. This is about the 4th time in the past 6 months I've had this issue with Argos.

crosspelican · 10/04/2021 11:27

We used to have 2 Argoses here in my small city and they were great, but now there's only a click and collect in Sainsbury about 20 miles away. But it doesn't really matter, because like you say, nothing is in stock anyway.

LauristonLane · 10/04/2021 11:28

I suppose I feel better that's it's not just me, sad for everyone else but hardly a good model for Argos themselves.

Can't make a profit on no sales!

AcornAutumn · 10/04/2021 11:30

I said on another thread, I think Argos is planning to close.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/04/2021 11:30

The Argos model is a bit outdated now. I think they will go online with a warehouse hub and delivery. They’ve got rid of the catalogue and it’s all online.

GooodMythicalMorning · 10/04/2021 11:31

Yanbu. Argos used to be my go to, but now I use amazon as Argos are useless. Never have what you want or won't deliver. They also seem to be pricier now.

Yes please, then we can actually buy the product😂

RatintheCat · 10/04/2021 11:37

Same experience here sadly. Shame as I'm happy with click and collect from store or Sainsburys. There's 3 nearby and one near my parents but for the last year nothing has ever been in stock at any of those 4. I assume they are in the process of shutting the business down tbh as they don't seem to have grasped the delivery side and I can't see a space for them on the high streets of the future.

Elouera · 10/04/2021 11:38

Even when you click you are happy to travel, there might only be 1 in stock, at the other end of the country, or often none at all! If its not available, anywhere in the country, surely it shouldnt be on their site at all, or at least have it highlighted as NOT IN STOCK- ANYWHERE!!!!

I'm found this for years at argos now, not just during covid times. Depending what you want, I've sometimes found the item in their larger sainsburys stores, on the shop shelves, even when it says no stock within the argos store- which is inside the exact same sainsburys store Confused

RaiseTheBeastie · 10/04/2021 11:42

I think they'll be gone soon.

Argos absolutely used to be my first call for lots of things...now it's usually Amazon.

RavingAnnie · 10/04/2021 11:46

Yes I think they'll be gone soon too.

Never anything in stock, appalling customer service and they are no longer competing on price and everything can be bought more cheaply elsewhere....where they actually have the item in stock.

Crimeismymiddlename · 10/04/2021 11:47

It’s since the Sainsbury’s takeover. Argos was my go to and worked perfectly, but now it is rubbish. I think Sainsbury’s bought them for access to more stock/suppliers and will be closing it soon. It’s such a shame as it really suits how we buy things now.
