Paedophile on Youtube ad

Urgh, I don't know how to stop this! There's a video advert for a TV documentary or something about Jimmy Savile that I'm getting constantly on Youtube clips. I can 'Skip ad' but only after it's played several seconds of him making creepy comments and it's hideous! I've tried Googling how to remove specific Youtube ads but all I get is explanations how to delete banner ads... It's just this one video clip I don't think people should have to be subjected to.

a) am I being unreasonable to think having to watch a paedophile talking about why he fancies little girls is NOT OK on Youtube and

b) how the hell can I stop it?!

Clear your cookies or just use Adblock 🤷‍♀️

sunflowersandbuttercups · 10/04/2021 10:32

Download Adblock. It's free.

FaceyRomford · 10/04/2021 10:33

YABU. An advert for a documentary about a criminal shows the criminal concerned? Whatever next!

Troyhelena · 10/04/2021 10:33

Is it really that big a deal having an advert? Just mute it while it’s playing and then skip the ad after a few seconds

ImInACage · 10/04/2021 10:34

I agree with you OP. I don't think it's as simple as having an adblocker, I don't think you can block ads at the start of videos can you? Surely that's part of what monetises it for the content creator? I don't think this as is appropriate though.

You're not supposed to but you can with Adblock Grin

It does block them (not on the app though).

I don't have any Saville ads. As far as I know they are targetted so I guess you either google Saville a lot or real crime docs and stories

Ynbu I find it very disturbing, ive tried the button button, but not really sure they take any notice
bruffin · 10/04/2021 10:40

*report button

SchrodingersImmigrant · 10/04/2021 10:43

Did you try to report an ad for showing the subject of that ad? I agree. I don't think they will take notice.

itsalifetimesworkfella · 10/04/2021 10:45

Don't ever watch a news programme. You won't cope.

I mean, it is that simple.

Adblock does what it says on the tin - it blocks adverts. That's why more and more sites don't let you access them unless you turn if off Grin

It only works on the YouTube website, though. Not the App or on any streaming services.

Have actually seen the ad? its not like watching the news. You can decide whether to watch the news, and you know what you are letting yourself in for. This just pops up out of nowhere in the middle of some innocent you tube
FurrySlipperBoots · 10/04/2021 17:38

@itsalifetimesworkfella

I don't watch the news. And just as bruffin says, it's not like I'm choosing to watch it - it just comes on suddenly!

I don't have any interest in real life crime shows, and I've never wanted to know anything about Jimmy Savile, so it's not something I've brought upon myself!

I didn't know that you could use an ad blocker! Do you have to pay?

I didn't know there was a report button. I'll give it a try but don't suppose they'll care.

@FurrySlipperBoots

Apologies. Looking back I was being unnecessarily snippy.

My point is that you can't bubble away from everything and sometimes we all need a bit of resilience.

If the programme advert is triggering, it must be painful. Life isn't easy. Thanks

ShrinkingViolet9 · 10/04/2021 17:54

If you are using a laptop or PC:

Using Opera as the browser, you can block all ads on YouTube using the Opera Adblocker. A "Skip Ad" button displays at the start, which you can click on to start the video. But if you wait a few seconds, the ad will be skipped, anyway. I see no ads either during videos.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 10/04/2021 18:02

I use ad blocker browser for youtube on android instead of an app. And ad blocker on chrome on laptop They can take their unskippable apps in the middle of "help to concentrate" music and shove them up their arses.
Honestly thinking about going back to pirating mp3s😂

jessstan2 · 10/04/2021 18:04

Blimey, that is well creepy! I didn't know he ever actually admitted to fancying little girls and have watched documentaries about him.

Others have said how to block this, I hope you do so successfully.
