I have a second interview next week for a role I’m really keen on securing.

When I’ve interviewed for jobs in the past I have only ever had one interview and then either a yes or no.

This job is a big deal to me and I’d love to ace the interview so what are your best tips for second interviews?

What's the job and what's the format of the interview?

Can you give any more info?

Depending on the content of a first interview, I’d always expect a second interview to be a bit more in-depth. In my experience, second interviews are usually with someone more senior.

Try to think of some STAR format answers to standard interview questions like dealing with conflict, working in a team, dealing with failure etc.

I’d also try to think of some really good questions to ask, and try and draw on anything you learned about the company from your first interview.

Find out who you're being interviewed by, and who they are in relation to your role, but also your first interviewer (eg. Their manager?)

Find out what format the interview will be in, and what it will involve (eg, competency tests, a presentation etc)

It's also worth asking whether or not this is the final stage

Make sure you are fully aware of what you said in your first interview - you don't want to be caught out!

Good luck

It’s with the same 3 people who I interviewed with in the first round of interview. There’s no presentation or competency tests as far as I am aware. I haven’t been asked to prepare anything for the day. It’s not until next Friday so at least the shops will be open to buy a new interview outfit hey?! Smile

I recently started a new job and the second interview was more detailed, a bit of a practical test (using example as a discussion), but ultimately I also think 2nd interviews are your chance to interview them back. Make sure you have thought about what really matters to you in a company and role and ask questions (what's the line management structure? Team or individual targets etc?). It's a two way process and remember that this is your last chance to find out about them and whether or not you want the job, before a potential offer

Oh and good luck!

Expect it to go much deeper than your first.
