How on earth do I get rid of blackheads? I’ve tried everything I can think of but my nose is full of them. Any tips or tricks?

Clean hair grip. Don't press too hard.

Get yourself over to Sporner Corner - the world's blackhead experts live there.

Salicylic acid such as Paula's Choice BHA. Numerous other products available but a salicylic acid toner is what you want.

Are they definitely blackheads and not nasal filaments?

Uhtredswoman · 11/04/2021 21:30

@MooseBeTimeForSummer what's a nasal filament? Sounds awful 😱

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 11/04/2021 21:32

@Uhtredswoman perfectly natural en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebaceous_filament

I use The Inkey List Salicylic Acid Cleanser daily. It’s worked very well for me. It really softens them and lightens the appearance a lot. It is a tad drying but I just make sure to always moisturise after (The Ordinary Rose Hip Oil then a 100% cold pressed Shea Butter) and it’s no problem.

I have sebaceous filaments but from my understanding you can treat both pretty much the same.

ZoeBowie70 · 11/04/2021 21:49

Tretinoin is the only thing that has ever worked for me. Used Paulas choice BHA but didn’t work for me so I have signed up to ‘skin and me’ which is prescription sent to you monthly by post based on your skin concerns. You have to send pics of your skin and be approved by their dermatologists first.
They did feature them on This Morning a while back.
Does cost £20 a month but worth it to me.

Long term use of Glow Tonic and Paula’s Choice BHA has helped bring this problem under control for me, but they were more sebaceous filaments than blackheads. For blackheads a little bit of Paula’s Choice BHA Gel (not the toner) every day will definitely help. And the bottle lasts forever.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 11/04/2021 22:37

they disappear when you get old Grin

If someone had told me in my teen/twenties/thirties I'd one day have beautifully clear skin, I wouldn't have believed them in a million years.

VexedofVirginiaWater · 11/04/2021 22:41

Mine haven't disappeared and I'm 65. Sad

m0therofdragons · 11/04/2021 22:41

I use those sticky strips that pull them out then a toner to close the pores.

MrsSnitchnose · 11/04/2021 22:41

One of these once a week keeps my nose clear all the time. I've tried others, but these are the best ones I've had

When does that happen? I'm mid fifties and still have the skin on a 20 year old. (I.e. greasy, spotty and cloggy!).

Northernsoullover · 11/04/2021 22:44

My sebaceous filaments dried up. I was gutted. I had years of fun with those Sad

Histrionicz · 11/04/2021 22:49

Are you certain they’re blackheads and not sebaceous filaments? Google them. They’re normal (unfortunately and cannot be treated) and not blackheads.

Scoobydoobydoo123 · 13/04/2021 21:04

Thank you so much. I looked it up and I think they are sebaceous filaments xx
