Dd is 5ft6 and a size 10. Iv noticed she’s put abit of weight on this year but she’s started back horse riding so hopefully will be ok.

What size is your 13yo?

My 14 year old usually buys a size 8 but tends to shop in cheaper places where sizes come up small. She’s naturally very thin. My 10 year old isn’t much smaller than her width wise though, although she’s obviously a lot shorter. She just doesn’t have hips yet but had a bigger frame.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 08/04/2021 17:56

It's a tough one this what with no exercise and no want to do much. Not sure if comparing size if helpful or more worrying. My dd is 13 5ft 6 and size 6 but it's all relative at this age. Hormones etc so try not worry.

emmathedilemma · 08/04/2021 17:59

I buy size 10 for my 13yr old goddaughter but she's not 5ft 6 as she's shorter than me. She's always been "solidly built". I think there can be a really big difference at that age, some 13 yr olds are fully grown and developed women (she has bigger boobs than me) whereas others still have the build of little girls.

NellePorter · 08/04/2021 17:59

Size 10, noticeably thinner in the past year but she has shot up about 3 inches to 5ft 9in. Her after-school activities have been suspended due to Covid but we've been very active at the weekends. (To try to offset all the home-baking)

FontyMcFontface · 08/04/2021 18:00

My 11yo is 5ft 6 so same height, and size 8-10

MrsGulDukat · 08/04/2021 18:01

DD is 13. Not sure what size she is but she can still get into 11-12 yr old clothes. She's only 5 foot 3 and quite petite.

FontyMcFontface · 08/04/2021 18:01

But why does it make a difference what size random unknown teenagers out there are? Stop scrutinising your dd’s weight and focus on a healthy lifestyle that includes a relaxed attitude to food and weight

AlexaShutUp · 08/04/2021 18:02

My dd is 15 but small for her age (height about 5'1, petite frame). She usually wears a size 6.

TheMarzipanDildo · 08/04/2021 18:02

Thing is some people are fully developed at 13 and others are still skinny children. It’s not really a fair comparison!

Henrysmycat · 08/04/2021 18:06

Mine turned 13 in March. She’s very narrow long-ish build and a size 6, fits into aged 10 clothes. She’s just over 5’4. At her age I was 5’1 and a size 8. Different body types. But her fitness has taken a nosedive with the lockdown.

NotOnMute · 08/04/2021 18:08

She’s in age 12 kids clothes, but she’s small for her age. An XS (size 8) top from Uniqlo is baggy on her, but wearable with the sleeves rolled up, and she has some XS leggings that also fit (random brand from Decathlon).

MrsGulDukat · 08/04/2021 18:12

I agreed that some 13 year old girls have a womans body when others dont. DD hasnt been on her periods for long either.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 08/04/2021 18:12

Why are you worried about your dds weight? It's really normal at 13 for girls to fill out and actually essential for puberty and growth.

At 5ft 6in and size 10 she sounds perfect.

cherrytreecottage · 08/04/2021 18:14

My DSD is turning 13 soon and she's a size 8 or a small x

KoalaOok · 08/04/2021 18:17

Is this for real? If you compare her to others size wise you risk doing her some real damage. Just focus on her being healthy and happy.

Whiskeywithwater · 08/04/2021 18:26

My 14 yo DD is 5ft9 and generally size 8, but sometimes a size 10 depending on the store. She was pretty much the same dimensions at 13

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 08/04/2021 18:26

I’d go by BMI not clothes size as stores vary wildly on sizes. BMI shows more useful info than a clothes label.

reluctantbrit · 08/04/2021 18:36

It really depends on the store and what she wears. DD is 13 and has a curvy figure, hips and boobs like the rest of the females in both families. I don't think she gained too much over lockdown, not really more than in other years as she is a natural hibernater from November onwards and always gains a bit when not going outside until Spring.

In jeggings she is still in 14+at H&M, otherwise she wears S in tops.

At New Look she is a 10 as most tops seems to be cut for stick figures.

I just got her a M&S legging 15-16.

Primark is all over the place since they changed their sizing, we have old tops where she is an 8, the newer ones she wears 10-12.

DD started riding again last week, her dance class is back in the stuido in a week's time. Zoom can only do so much. Also with back to school it is also back to 2x 30 minutes walking each day. Any remaining lockdown weight will fall off soon.
