Flat sheets

AIBU to suggest nobody uses flat sheets anymore? In the days of blankets and candlewick bedspreads they were needed as a top layer. But nowadays? Fitted base sheet and duvet cover seems to be what every shop markets as 'normal''. Are flat sheets something to invest in now for posterity before they vanish forever?

Love flat sheets as top sheets.
Bed feels luxurious.
Am a cold sleeper in an old house, use them the traditional way with blankets in the winter under my duvet and its heaven.

We use flat sheets as top sheets under the duvet cover. I don’t like sleeping under the duvet cover on its own. I don’t know why, though!

It's a revaluation to me all this as I just sleep under the duvet cover! I use mattress protectors though as they do stop the mattress from going a horrible colour!
Bedding is so expensive now too ( well, anything decent is)

I'm in Canada and our bed sets have the fitted sheet, flat sheet for under the duvet, and then we have duvet covers.

I love flat sheets, I hate the awkwardness of fitted sheets.

I hate fitted sheets because they never fit!

Useful for non conventional beds such as sofa beds.

I use flat sheets instead of fitted sheets as I can hot wash them and if they shrink it doesnt matter.

Over top, then the duvet. Often I only use the sheet as I get hot, same with dh.

I always use a flat sheet under a duvet covet as it is easier to wash a sheet weekly

Oh I just realised that I misunderstood the very first. Op. We use fitted bottom sheets on the mattress, then we each have a flat top sheet, duvet etc. I tuck my top sheet in at the bottom, but dh prefers his loose.
